Re: Rest in Peace
James T Ellis, who belted out the refrain "Burn, baby burn!" in a 1970s-era disco hit that's still replayed in modern sports arenas, has died. He was 74. Other Trammps hits included 'Hold Back The Night'. RIP

Re: Rest in Peace
Guitar hero Bert Weedon has died at the grand old age of 91. Though not considered as vital a player as most of the greats, he achieved immortality through his Play In A Day book which showed how to play the guitar, and which was credited by no less a roll call of honour than Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Brian May, amongst many, many others. And a thoroughly nice bloke, too, from all accounts.
RIP

Never heard of anyone getting "salivary gland cancer" before, so it just goes to show. I never really went for their 1987/8 hype, but 'Intergalactic' was a winner. RIPAdric wrote:RIP )-: Adam Yauch Dead: Beastie Boys Member MCA Dies of Cancer at 47

Can very much relate to that. In the states "Fight For Your Right (To Party)" was their first hit and was quite popular for a time. I never could get into it. It also came out in that mid 80's era that became so "commercial" for a time. I always thought 85-mid 87 to be the "bland" period of the decade, still with some smashing hits.
As for the cancer, I did a little research that should easily enough be found just by googling the term "cell phone cancer" or anything along those lines. There have been increasing cases of this and doctors believe it to be from using cell phones over long periods of time. Somehow it can do damage to the brain. I always thought of it more as a brain tumor, though I'm no doctor. Ofcourse, you won't hear the media talk about it as long as they have a cell phone provider as a sponsor.

Donald “Duck” Dunn, who played on hundreds of rock and soul classics as the bassist for Booker T. and the MGs, and later as a session player, passed away Sunday morning at the age of 70.

Disco Diva Donna Summer has today passed away after a fight with cancer. She was 63. She will be remembered for a string of catchy classics, not least of which the double-header of 'Love to Love You Baby' and 'I Feel Love', which helped changed the musical climate forever.

Re: Rest in Peace
So many losses this year alone and only into May. After battling with cancer for years, we have lost Bee Gees member Robin Gibb. Just weeks ago, he seemed to be on the road to recovery. Very sad times for music lovers of the Disco era. I had barely starting taking in loss of Whitney Houston when Donna Summer was pronounced dead. Very sad indeed. RIP .... You will ALWAYS live on and be remembered through your fantastic music.
Re: Rest in Peace
Yes, Robin has left us a tremendous legacy of music. Like Donna, he (with the Bee Gees) really helped changed the direction of music in the 1970's, and AFAIK, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack is still one of the biggest selling albums of all time. So RIP

Much-loved British entertainer Max Bygraves passed away at his home in Queensland at the weekend, aged 89. He had been suffering with Alzheimer's disease.
Though well regarded as a comedian and variety entertainer, he also had several hit singles in the 1950's and beyond, including the hugely successful 'You Need Hands' and 'Tulips From Amsterdam'.
