Iron Butterfly bassist Lee Dorman dies at age 70
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lee Dorman, the bassist for psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly, has died at age 70.
Orange County sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Krause says Dorman was found dead in a vehicle Friday morning. A coroner's investigation is under way, but foul play is not suspected.
Krause said Dorman may have been on his way to a doctor's appointment when he died.
Iron Butterfly was formed and rose to prominence in the late 1960s. Its second album, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," sold more than 30 million copies, according to the band's website. The title track's distinctive notes have been featured in numerous films and TV shows including "The Simpsons," ''That '70s Show" and in the series finale of "Rescue Me."
Douglas Lee Dorman was born in September 1942 and had been living in Laguna Nigel, a coastal city in Southern California, when he died.
A message sent through the band's website was not immediately returned.

Sad, but a good age. Probably best known for 'Wild Thing' (which he didn't write), 'Love is All Around' (which someone else had a huge hit with), and the UFO interests. 'With a Girl Like You' is a good song, deserved to be #1

A very sad day as country music fans have lost a legend .... George Jones, country music icon, dies at 81

Indeed, an iconic figure in country music. If country music had an equivalent of 'Mount Rushmore', I think he'd probably be on there along with Johnny Cash and others.

Indeed. Admittedly, I was never a fan of 'Jump' at all, though 'Warm It Up' was a fun hit for the day. It's sad as this cause of death is far too common amongst the famous and/or x-famous. When an artist 7 yrs. my junior passes away, it does make me feel old. Then, there's also that saying we've all heard and said to ourselves, "Where has the time gone?" In so many ways it does feel like Kris Kross were dominating the charts just yesterday. Sometimes it truly does feel like I was brought to 2013 by a madman in a blue box. I guess it's true what my father once said. When you're a kid, 20 years seems like a lifetime away. Once you've grown older, 20 years is gone in a month lol. Deepest regards to his family and friends and RIP. Kris Kross will always be known in the states as having had one of the original #1 rap songs with HUGE success. Very few can take that feat with them.
Ironically, when I heard this news, I was wearing my pants backwards ....
