Gil Scott-Heron, variously dubbed either the "Godfather of Rap" or "Godfather of Hip-Hop", terms which he himself disagreed with, has died, aged 62. He did release several albums, so I'm not over-surprised he got categorised. He was credited as an influence by KanYe West, and he seems to have pioneered the phrase "the revolution will not be televised".

Record producer Martin Rushent has died, aged 63. Among the many acts he worked with were the Stranglers, Buzzcocks, XTC, Generation X, the Go-Go's and Altered Images. But maybe his greatest work was with Human League on their 1981 classic 'Dare'. RIP Sad

Also passed away is Andrew Gold, singer-songwriter whose heyday was the mid-late 70's, with hits like Lonely Boy, and Thank You For Being a Friend. He was 59. RIP Sad

And also Gordon Lorenz, whose claim to fame was writing 'There's No-One Quite Like Grandma', the novelty 1980 UK Christmas #1. He was also the 1st producer to work with Charlotte Church, and was in his 60's. RIP Sad

Nick Ashford has sadly died at 70. He was half of the duo Ashford & Simpson and hit big in the US with their song Solid. I was just listening to that the other night and remembering how much I loved it at a kid. R.I.P.

Yeah, 'Solid' is still a belter. Apparently, they wrote 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' amongst others, as well. RIP Sad

Also sadly lost to us today is Jerry Lieber, half of another legendary song-writing duo (Lieber & Stoller), who wrote many great hits for Elvis Presley, such as 'Hound Dog', amongst others. He was 78. RIP Sad

Very sad day as we lose two artists. 50's sensation, Roger Williams has died at age 87. We also lose former Weezer bassist, Mikey Welsh. R.I.P. Sad

Trinidadian bandleader, musician and easy listening legend Edmundo Ros has died, a few weeks short of his 101st birthday. His long & prolific career came to a premature end in the mid-70's when a Union complaint prompted him to disband his orchestra.

Always a shame when anyone dies young, and this is no exception.

Heavy D, rapper best remembered for his funky 1991 cover of 'Now That We Found Love' has died at the age of just 44 Sad AIUI, he'd suffered with weight issues over the years, but this is still a shock.

RIP

Dobie Gray has just died, aged 71. His biggest American hit was 'Drift Away' which was a big success in 1973, and in Britain he scored with 'The In Crowd' back in 1965 Sad

Also sad to report the death of Barbara Orbison. She was married to Roy for 19 years up to his untimely death, and died on pancreatic cancer on the 6th, which was the 23rd anniversary of Roy's death. She had fiercely protected his career interests since his death Sad

May they both RIP

Presenter of American music show legend 'Soul Train', Don Cornelius, took his own life. He was 75. During his decades of presenting the show, he also founded the 'Soul Train Awards' to further promote and endorse the acts he felt deserved coverage.

"Love, Peace and SOUL!"

Regarding Whitney Houston's death, radio talk show host, Alex Jones, did a 5 minute piece on the cause of her death. I couldn't agree with him more and truly believe this is why so many young talents are leaving us so early on. Secret Of Whitney Houston's Death Discovered

Eddie Fisher was remembered first for singing, having his own show, being the husband of perky and sweet Debbie Reynolds, whom he left for screen sex goddess Liz Taylor. He was hated by all housewives and girls throughout the USA. It was a terrible scandle. I was there and remember it all. Nite
