One of the greatest drummers who ever played, Hal Blaine, has died at the age of 90:

Over the course of his career, he played on countless hits by Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys and John Lennon, amongst others.
But his most recognisable riff was the "boom-ba-boom-crack" bar that opened The Ronnettes' Be My Baby.

Surf Instrumental legend Dick Dale has died at the age of 81 (or possibly 82). His apex moment was Misirlou, which featured in films in the 1960s, and again in 1994 thanks for Quentin Tarantino, when Pulp Fiction relit the fire under Dale's career, as under so many others. RIP Sad

The English Beat and General Public vocalist Ranking Roger --real name Roger Charlery-- has passed away at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer.

Stephen Fitzpatrick, 24, and Audun Laading, 25, and tour manager Trevor Engelbrektson, died while travelling to a gig in California on Wednesday, their record label Heist or Hit said.

Boon Gould, founder member of Level 42, died the other day at the age of 64. He was in the group from 1980-7.

Joao Gilberto, bossa nova legend, has died at the age of 88.

Also, Martin Charnan, who helped adapt the musical of Annie, and co-wrote Tomorrow and It's A Hard Knock Life, has died at the age of 84.

Hit songwriter LaShawn Daniels has died in a car crash. He was 41.

Also composer Jonathan Goldstein died in a plane crash. He was with his wife, saxophonist Hannah Marcinowicz, and their 7-month old child Saskia. All were lost.

Ric Ocasek, lead singer for new-wave icons The Cars, found dead at 75 Sad

Ric Ocasek, frontman and lead singer for new-wave icons The Cars, has been found dead in New York.

New York Police Det. Martin Brown confirmed to USA TODAY that police were called to Ocasek's residence around 4 p.m. EDT Sunday. "Upon arrival, police found a 75-year-old male unresponsive in bed," Brown said. "He was pronounced dead at the scene."

Brown said a family member found Ocasek's body. "It doesn't appear criminal at this time."

The band, famed for hits like “Drive” and “Just What I Needed,” broke through in 1978, and Ocasek, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, David Robinson and Benjamin Orr were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
