Rest In Peace Part 2
Yes Co-Founder Chris Squire Dies
Chris Squire, stalwart co-founder of Yes, has died, bandmate Geoff Downes confirms via Twitter. The 67 year old had announced a hiatus from the band in May, following a diagnosis of acute erythroid leukemia.
“Utterly devastated beyond words to have to report the sad news of the passing of my dear friend, bandmate and inspiration Chris Squire,” says Downes, who appeared on three Yes studio albums with the bass-playing legend – 1980′s Drama, 2011′s Fly From Here and 2014′s Heaven and Earth.
Squire was the only constant in a band that began evolving almost as soon as it was founded in advance of a self-titled 1969 debut. Yes’ Aug. 7 concert with Toto will mark the first-ever without him.

Cardigan crooner Val Doonican has died at the age of 88.
More of a light entertainer than anything, he had a successful show in England for many, many years, where he performed duets with country stars of the day, and became synonymous with crooning from his rocking chair, thus becoming a regular Christmas fixture. In interviews, he always came across as a nice guy, and he did well to reach 88.Sarah told The Guardian: "Until 87, he was as fit as a flea. It was just old age, I'm afraid - the batteries ran out."
RIPHe became one of the most popular and best-selling singers of his generation and went on to record more than 50 albums, sales of which register in the millions.

ISTR Dionne Warwick said it best about her as a singer. But she was OK as a game show host. And 72's a good age for anyone. So RIP

Scott Weiland, former Stone Temple Pilots singer, dies at 48 RIP
Scott Weiland, the former lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died at the age of 48, his manager confirmed on Thursday.
Weiland was scheduled to perform with his band The Wildabouts in Medina, Minnesota, on Thursday night, and passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in nearby Bloomington, according to a statement shared on his Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Weiland’s hard-edged baritone voice, which also stretched into higher registers, was a staple of ’90s rock radio as he powered such Stone Temple Pilots hits as “Plush” (which earned him his first Grammy), “Creep,” “Interstate Love Song,” “Vasoline,” and “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart.” The band released five albums from the early 90s to the early 2000s, including 1992’s eight-times-platinum Core and 1994’s six-times-platinum Purple, which reached No. 1. STP broke up in 2002, but reunited in 2008; Weiland exited the band again in 2013.

Re: Rest In Peace Part 2
I'm afraid I never thought much of STP, and he was the obvious weak link in Velvet Revolver (how can you try to recreate a band but with a less mad frontman than Axl Rose, and then find someone worse?!)

German conductor Kurt Masur has died at the age of 88
A peace-maker as well as a music-maker. RIPThe German was music director of the New York Philharmonic from 1991-2002 and was credited with reinvigorating the ensemble.
Prior to that he led the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in then-Communist eastern Germany for almost 30 years.
The German government praised Masur for his role in 1989 as the GDR regime was threatened by mass demonstrations.
The conductor was one of the prominent Leipzig citizens to appeal for no violence as tens of thousands took to the streets.
His influence helped prevent a bloody crackdown on pro-democracy protesters - and the Berlin Wall fell, peacefully, within weeks.
