Vinnie Paul, from Pantera, died the other day at just 54. RIP 

Alan Longmuir, of 70s Scottish boyband the Bay City Rollers, has died at the age of 70. RIP 

Richard Swift, member of both The Shins and The Black Keys, has died at the age of 41. RIP 

British conductor/composer Oliver Knussen has died at the age of 66.

Hollywood legend Tab Hunter, singer of "Young Love" amongst many other things, has died at the age of 86.

Ed King, guitarist in both the Strawberry Alarm Clock and more notably Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died at the age of 76. He left LS over disagreements with Ronnie van Zant, and his replacement Steve Gaines died in LS' infamous plane crash a year or two later. When they reunited in 1987, he was there, but left again in 1996 because of heart problems. He died of cancer.

Also Jill Janus took her own life last week. She was the lead singer with Huntress, and just 43.

Conway Savage long-time member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, has passed away. He was 58. He left the band after 27 years when diagnosed with a brain tumour. RIP 

Chas Hodges, much loved member of Cockney duo Chas & Dave, has died at the age of 74. He had been battling cancer for a while. Together they had several hits in the late 70s & early 80s like Gertcha and Rabbit, but I think their biggest hit was the following:

Marty Balin, of Jefferson Airplane, has died at the age of 76.

Balin, real name Martyn Jerel Buchwal, found fame with the group in the 1960s with hits such as White Rabbit.
He left the San Francisco-based band in 1970 - but later got back together with some of its members under the name Jefferson Starship.
He was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

French singing legend Charles Aznavour, has died at the age of 94. RIP His biggest success in the UK was reaching #1 with She.

Peggy Sue Gearon, immortalised in song by the young Buddy Holly, has died this week at the age of 78:

His song was originally Cyndi Lou, but Bud changed it and boy, did it work out well.

South African rapper H H P has taken his own life. He was just 38.

Meanwhile Canadian rapper Jon James has died after a wing-walking stunt in a video went wrong. He was 34.

Babs Beverley, of 50s trio the Beverley Sisters, has died at the age of 91. With Joy dying in 2015, that leaves Teddie as the sole surviving member.

Country legend Roy Clark has died from pneumonia. He was 85. He won multiple CMA awards in his career, and worked busily on television. His only country #1 was 1973's "Come Live With Me."

Al James bass player with 70s legends Showaddywaddy has died at the age of 72. He was in the band from 1973-2008. He'd suffered a fall and been in hospital ever since. RIP 

Devin Lima, 41 year old member of LFO/Lyte Funkie Ones, has died. They had a brief day in the sun around 2001.

Nancy Wilson, 81 year old jazz singer and NOT to be confused with the member of Heart, has died. RIP 

Oscar/Grammy-winning lyricist Norman Gimbel has died at the age of 91. Though he apparently wrote the words to "Killing me Softly with his Song", and "The Girl from Ipanema", I suspect the Happy Days theme is more of a claim to fame.

Ray Sawyer, eye-patch wearer extraordinaire from Dr Hook, died the other day, aged 81. This year will mark 40 years since their big success (in the UK at least) with When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman. IIRC, Sawyer was often mistaken for being the mythical Dr Hook, by people who should have known better.

Continuing a bad week for middle-of-the-road musicians:

Dean Ford, from 60s hitsters Marmalade ("Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" etc) has died at the age of 72.

Also Daryl Dragon, better known by his soubrqieut The Captain, in 70s chart-sters The Captain & Tennille, has died at the age of 76. They had a US #1 with their version of Neil Sedaka's "Love Will Keep Us Together".

Edwin Birdsong has died at the age of 77

He was best known for the disco song Cola Bottle Baby, which formed the basis for Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.
He was also a prolific session musician and producer who worked with Stevie Wonder and Roy Ayers.

Michel Legrand, multi-time Oscar-winning composer of such classics as "Windmills of Your Mind", has died at the age of 86. RIP

Yeah, sad news. Some great 80s duets, I had his album (one of them?) last year. RIP 

Rising star Brit rapper Cadet was killed in a car crash over the weekend. He was just 28. He's only recently made his debut with Deno Driz. RIP 

Monkees Bassist Peter Tork Dies at 77 -
Peter Tork, the lovable, mop-topped former bassist/guitarist and singer in The Monkees, died on Thursday (Feb. 21) at age 77.

The news was confirmed by Tork's official Facebook page, which paid homage to the actor/singer who made his name as a member of the made-for-TV band that became the American answer to the Beatles in the mid-1960s. A cause of death was not available at press time. Tork's sister, Anne Thorkelson, confirmed the news to the Washington Post, where Tork wrote a blog post in 2009 about his treatment for the rare tongue cancer adenoid cystic carcinoma.
