Lynyrd Skynyrd's Gary Rossington has died at 71. He was the last surviving original band member, and co-wrote the classic Sweet Home Alabama. RIP 

Actor Chaim Topol has died at 87. His star turn in Fiddler on the Roof left an audience with fairly definitive versions of tunes like If I Were A Rich Man and Sunrise, Sunset. RIP 

Singer Bobby Caldwell has died at the age of 71 after a brief illness. He was most famous for his hit, "What You Won't Do For Love". RIP

Not a name that rings a bell, but I know Go West did a fine cover of the song in 1994, which was good. RIP anyway 

Lyricist Keith Reid has died at 76. His biggest successes were You're The Voice, for John Farnham, and A Whiter Shade of Pale, for Procol Harum and all sorts of people. RIP 

Brian Brizz has become the third member of LFO to die at age 47. RIP

Composer Ryuichi Sakamoto has died at 71. He worked with David Bowie, amongst others.

Also Sire records infamous Seymour Stein has died at 80. He's known amongst other things for giving Madonna a big push, but he also did wonders for Talking Heads and others.

Recently reformed S Club 7 have to deal with the sudden death of original member Paul Cattermole, who'd turned 46 last month. He'd become most famous in the intervening years since the band originally went on hiatus by trying to raise money selling off awards and memorabilia from his time in the band. RIP 

Another unexpected death as Mark Sheehan, founder member of Irish band The Script, has died at 46   RIP

Mark Stewart of 80s non-hit-wonders The Pop Group, has died at 62. RIP 

American legend Harry Belafonte died at 96. He was a musical star in the 1950s, did some acting and plenty of work on civil rights. He supposedly helped put We Are The World together from ire that Band Aid was a British initiative. RIP 

Gordon Lightfoot died at 84.

Linda Lewis died at 72.

Andy Rourke, bass player with 80s UK indie legends the Smiths, has lost a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 59. RIP 

Very sad to hear of the passing of legendary Tina Turner. She has died at the age of 83 after battling a long illness.

Also, worth noting that Sheldon Reynolds of Earth, Wind & Fire & The Commodores has died at the age of 63. RIP to both.

Legendary co-songwriter Cynthia Weil has died at 82. She is infamous in the phrase "Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil", a team who wrote a multitude of hits:

Samba singer Astrud Gilberto, best recalled as the voice on the infamous Girl From Ipanema, has died at 83. RIP 

Conductor Peter Nero died at 89.

Also French actress Jane Birkin has died at 76. She had a UK #1 single in 1969 with Serge Gainsbourg on the timeless "Je t'aime... moi non plus".

The legendary Tony Bennett passed away at 96. A crooning legend from the 1950s onwards, he also seems by all accounts to have been a good guy too, which doesn't always follow. In his latter years he continued to work and did a notable production with Lady Gaga a few years back. RIP 

British crooner Vince Hill just died, at 89. His biggest UK chart hit was a cover of Edelweiss, which got to #2. As well as singing, he did presenting in his career. RIP 

British composer/conductor Carl Davis has died at 86. He worked on The World at War, The Naked Civil Servant and Scandal. RIP 

Sixto Rodriguez, aka Sugarman, has died at the age of 81. He achieved a belated fame thanks to the charming documentary Searching For Sugarman. RIP 

Managed to miss wishing Robbie Robertson a happy 80th last month, and now he's sadly died. RIP 

Legendary record executive Jerry Moss has died at 88. He was the M of A&M records (the A being Herb Alpert, just 5-6 weeks Jerry's elder). RIP 

Legendary guitarist Bernie Marsden, from Whitesnake and other projects, has died at 72. RIP
