As ever, the BBC have announced their tips for the top from the crop of new talent around. Those on the longlist were:

A$AP Rocky
Dot Rotten
Dry The River
Flux Pavilion
Friends
Jamie N Commons
Lianne La Havas
Ren Harrien
Spector
Stooshe

and the all-important Top 5 were:

5th Niki & The Dove

4th Skrillex

3rd Azealia Banks

2nd Frank Ocean

and

1st Michael Kiwanuka Cool

So time will tell, yeah?

Presume that should have said 'Ren Harvieu' Neutral

Mixed bag so far. Frank Ocean seems the most notable name yet to make any impact.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Jamie N Commons, and Spector probably stand a good long-term chance, as well.

StooShe and Lianne La Havas seem to have made a good impression.

Skrillex and Azealia Banks seem to have hit big in the charts with one song that lingers around the charts for far longer than feasibly possible (Bangarang, and 212, respectively). Despite my blatant cynicism, Skrillex' "Make it Bun Dem" was more to my taste.

But it still seems to have been a pretty rough year.
