Sound of 2023
As this old year scampers towards its conclusion, thoughts have already turned to the hopes for the next one. Hence, the reveal of the BBC-backed "Sound of 2023" longlist:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-63809715
Asake
Biig Piig
Cat Burns
Rachel Chinouriri
Dylan
Flo
Fred Again
Gabriels
Nia Archives
Piri & Tommy
Some of those haven't already had UK top 40 hits, so may be able to point to this list if it helps (depending also on whether they make the final 5).

MTV Push 2023 - New Artists We Love!
Some typical suggestions here, like Flo, Dylan and Venbee, but also the likes of Caity Baiser, Katie Gregson-MacLeod and ShaSimone. Not all that many lads this year, for whatever reason.
Fresh For 2023
4music's version, also picking Dylan, Caity Baiser, Flo and Venbee, but also Bellah, Crawlers, Debbie and Nia Archives.

MTV Push 2023 - The Sessions
Actual live efforts from 9 of their shortlisted contenders, include Rimzee, ShaSimone and Piri & Tommy.
Fresh This Month (February)
They seem to be sticking with this format, even when live shows are doable. Abbie chatted by Zoom to Nia Archives, and there were new numbers from Arlo Parks, Jessie Reyez and even Potter Payper, along with one from JVKE (pron. Jake) which has been in the charts for months.

Fresh This Month (March)
A few unexpected choices this time, like Omah Lay and Guvna B, but mostly the predictable choices like Strandz, Libianca and Flo who have already made the charts. Abbie chats to Coi Leray about her track which needed a remix to make the top 10.
New Generation Artists presents...
The 2nd of 2 shows (the first was shown last May!) with Georgia Mann hosting at the Coal Exchange in Cardiff, as Sean Shibe, Aris Quartet, Elisabeth Brauss, Ruby Hughes and Kunal Lahiry all got to sing and/or play.

Trace Talks: Libianca
She's from Cameroon and currently has a big hit called People (Check On Me) which seems to be popular with people missing its point. She appeared on the Voice US during lockdown (somehow). Social media helped her journey, she used to work making sandwiches. She has plans for an EP (I suppose LPs are a bit old hat with the new generation).
1xtra: Hot 4 2023
Remi Burgz presents a performance showcase of tips for this year, including Nippa, Debbie, Nemzz, Nia Archives, Cristale and Flo. Nia did a DJ mix-set which was different.

Re: Sound of 2023
Fresh This Month (April)
Another rum round-up, with the welcome news of new Katy B material, and also Tinashe too. Abbie talked to Zara Larsson, making another comeback. Flowerovlove has chosen a pretty lousy name.
BBC Music Introducing... Scottish Act of the Year - Your Vote
Shereen and Phoebe return to list the 8 candidates for this title, talk to last year's winner Bemz, and hear a performance from Brooke Combe. The finalists were:
Aiitee
The Big Day
Love Sick
Queen of Harps
Chef the Rapper
Russell Stewart
Terra Kim
Vlure
I think the vote has already been held, but I'm in no rush to find out who got the nod.

Abbie chatted to Caity Baser, whilst there were videos from Arlo Parks and Raye, or Mae Stephens and David Kushner which have been out for weeks.

Abbie chatted to Mae Stephens, whilst there were also videos from Tion Wayne, Jayda G, Ayra Starr, and Coco Jones, some of whom could do with the exposure.

Re: Sound of 2023
Fresh This Month (July)
Kicked off with already-Number-1 Sprinter, but did at least include the new Leigh-Ann single, plus new-ish ones from Caity Baser, Doja Cat, Cian Ducrot and Jayda G, whilst Abbie chatted to Beka.

Fresh This Month (August)
Michael Aldag and Issey Cross can at least count as fresh faces, and Abby talks to Henry Moodie, who is another. Otherwise it's just fresh tunes from some rather stale faces.

Fresh This Month (September)
Abbie chatted to Antslive, and otherwise there weren't too many new ones, save maybe Tays ft Cole LC.
MTV Push presents Renee Rapp
She's from North Carolina, and started songwriting from 10. She has ADHD and pushy parents, as well as piano playing. She has an album Snow Angel out.

Fresh This Month (October)
Abbie talked to Katie Gregson-MacLeod, and also had tracks from Tate McRae, Purple Disco Machine, CMAT, Noizu and Toddla T, among others.
MTV Push presents Armani White
He had a hit on TikTok last year and was signed to Def Jam earlier this year, so he is at least a relatively new act, for once. His family were musicians, and had a church background until rap caught his ear. He nearly got a track on the Space Jam 2 soundtrack. Billie Eilish gave her blessing to his track named after her which uses a sample of hers.

Re: Sound of 2023
Classic FM Rising Stars w/Julian Lloyd Webber
Back to LSO St Luke's with a showcase for another crop of rising talents, from cellists to pianists. Julian chatted to each of them, and they each got to do 2 tunes.
Fresh 2023: Highlights
A round-up of past shows, with a few examples which weren't hits at all, but a few who did hit the target. They don't seem like they'll go back to the pre-pandemic format.
MTV Push presents Flo
Stella, Renee and Georgia formed in 2019, but had a few hits this year, and even got to collaborate with Missy Elliot. So maybe they'll have a future.

Top of the Pops: Review of the Year 2023
Possibly the lowest key this show has been in years, Clara Amfo held together a collection of clips which were less about the charts and more about what clips they could show (eg Elton John from Glastonbury). Sure, Blur and Take That! had #1 albums, but this was seldom a show about those. Chats with Raye and Venbee (who both peaked in January!) were similarly uninspired. They did include a rundown of the top 10 singles of the year, but that was glossed over like a requirement than a passion.
