Sound of 2024

With only a fortnight left of this old year, the music industry, such as it is, wants to already wish its life away on the new year. As such, they've made their shortlist of 10 names from whom they expect big things soon:

Most have already made some chart impact this year, or even last. TLDP also got the Rising Star nod from the Brits.

And perhaps inevitably, especially given the hype about Wet Leg the other year, The Last Dinner Party were announced as the winners of this. I'm not confident for them.

A rather vague round-up of videos from the select 10 choices, who include Elmiene, Only The Poets, Charlotte Plank, Antslive, Henry Moodie, Jazzy, Lovejoy and others.

Fresh For 2024
Not to be outdone, Abbie Mac was still unable to talk to people in real life, despite the lack of general restrictions. She did chat to Sekou, Charlotte Plank, Noahffince and the lads from No Guidnce. Bad spelling is this year's thing, alas. There were also videos from The Last Dinner Party, CMAT and Caity Baser.

Ones To Watch: 2024
A shorter show on The Box, with Flowerovlove, Caity Baser and CMAT all getting some love for once.

The Last Dinner Party released their album "Prelude to Ecstasy" this week, and it went to #1 in the UK!

Fresh For 2024 (February)
They're sticking with the new name, but Abbie is still doing Zoom interviews like she's the longest isolater in the world (and her chats with Sekou and Charlotte Plank were almost certainly the same ones from January too).

Fresh For 2024 (March)
No Abbie at all, but amongst the videos, Declan McKenna did a live take on his new single, which made a good change. There were even a few newer songs for once.

Fresh This Month (April)
No Abbie this time either, maybe she escaped after al. Most inclusions were just new singles by familiar acts, like Flo or Olivia Rodrigo or Tyla.

BBC Introducing... Scottish Act of the Year
From Glasgow, Phoebe and Shereen were back again to link performances from the 4 finalists, who were Quiet Houses, Bee Asha, Bottle Rockets and Majesty Palm. As with a previous year, the one act I found least impressive, turned out to be judged the winners, Bottle Rockets.
