He can't really lose with this one because the situation is so flimsy that whilst it is more likely that the disease is being contained in Africa, it is not too implausible that someone could somehow sneak onto a plane that would take them to the USA.

Well, anyone who starts a response with "nobody had heard of the Illuminati a few years ago" is woefully mistaken. Maybe people in the USA haven't heard of them... from what can be seen of the US media channels (not just the news channels, which are obviously dreadful), the premise of an insular culture which only takes an interest when they're directly involved is always going to be easy prey for those who wish to act as saviours, preaching a new gospel of enlightenment.
