Kate Bush! Empty Kate Bush!

If I'm ever to do a thread on her, then there's unlikely to be much better time than now. The modern genius has bewitched audiences since her landmark 1978 debut with Wuthering Heights. Through a number of impressive 80s albums, she continued to delight listeners and though her output slowed dramatically, she remains a much-loved original. Here are a handful of the reasons why:

Them Heavy People

Cloudbusting

Deal With God aka Running Up That Hill

The Kate Bush Story: Running Up That Hill
Tied in to her return to live gigs after 35 years, this run-through was notable for the plethora of the famous paying homage. Not merely Elton John, Peter Gabriel, David Gilmour and Tori Amos, but also Tricky, Steve Coogan, Neil Gaiman and Big Boi from OutKast. Archive footage of Kate herself in interviews and performance footage helped fill out the story.

Kate Bush at the BBC
A selection of 15 songs from assorted shows. Interesting titbits were the idea that the video for 'Experiment IV' was banned from Top Of The Pops for being too shocking. There was a nice mix of the familiar and the less so, too.

The Sensual World of Kate Bush
An amiable half-hour from 1989 plugging her then-new album. She talked about her family, her dance learning, her 1979 tour (footage included) and how the radio mic was invented, her directing & storyboarding of videos (influenced by Hitchcock). Hopefully, the current buzz will yield other curios.

Video Killed The Radio Star: Kate Bush
Her 80s peak saw many unforgettable works, from Cloudbusting to Running Up That Hill, and her collaboration with the equally video-stravagnza Peter Gabriel , the under-stated Don't Give Up, which Kevin Godley talked about directing.

Kate Bush: Under Review
Quite a thorough look through her career, from her early rush of albums, to the increasingly long waits between them. Paul Gambaccini and a few journalists who help with many of these sorts of shows were generally positive about what a genius she was.

A mild cheat, but I don't expect to do a Kate Bush thread. This rarely shown 1979 special saw Pete duet with Kate on a song, and he also did Here Comes The Flood. An intriguing nod that their later duet on Don't Give Up wasn't entirely a random result.
Kate
Repeated in part of the usual hubbub, and despite my previous estimation, an impressive show which included Them Heavy People, Don't Put Your Foot on the Heartbrake, The Man with the Child in His Eyes, The Wedding List, and many others.
