Britney did indeed get her chance, and she stuck both boots into her dad, and seemed fiercely coherent on her wish to end the conservatorship.

Many other celebrities from Mariah Carey to Justin Timberlake have shown sympathy and backed her call.

It made no difference, and her father remains in control.

The Bessemer Trust, mysterious co-conservators, are now trying to get out of their role, though. If they genuinely don't approve, wouldn't they be better working with Britney, rather than just trying to wash their hands of the whole thing?

This week's Britney update is that her long-time manager has quit working with her after 25 years, and her lawyer also wants out now. On the plus side, her mum Lynne still seems supportive.

I might just do a separate Britney thread yet. This week, she was granted the right to have a lawyer of her own choice at last, and she's emphasised she refuses to work any further on music whilst her father is in charge.

Britney's father has apparently decided to step down from his position as conservator, after all these years. I suspect it's not going to be one great leap to freedom for her, though.

Britney Spears Under Investigation For Striking Employee

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) –Britney Spears, who has been embroiled in a conservatorship case for months, is now under investigation for possibly striking one of her employees at her home.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday that the 39-year-old Singer is the suspect in a battery investigation. An employee claims that Spears struck them during a dispute at Spears’ home at about 10 a.m. Monday.

The employee was not hurt, but a complaint was filed with the sheriff’s office. Deputies would not confirm the nature of the dispute.


The sheriff’s office will forward the results of its investigation to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for potential consideration of misdemeanor battery charges.

Jamie has made some steps towards stepping down as conservator, though not rapidly enough for her fans' liking.

Alex Vlasov worked for Black Box security, who were supposed to be protecting Britney's interests, but it seems likelier they were working more for her father Jamire. Tri-Star were another dodgy-seeming outfit doing Britney more harm than good.

Ronan Farrow was among the contributors offering his $0.02 so you get the idea. The case presented was fairly convincing that all was not all it should have been. Heck, they even interviewed Mischa Barton for her experiences.

Jamie's offer to stand down, far from being the victory it was presented as, was more aimed to take heat off by making it appear he would be doing something sooner than he actually wants to. Britney being able to get her own lawyer seems to have helped matters as she's now being represented by a tougher cookie.

The conservatorship is indeed now over.

Her sister Jamie Lynn has a book out, which Britney feels is a detrimental cash-in, and for which she has sent a "cease and desist" letter 

Perhaps coincidentally, Britney has let on that she is writing her own memoir, which she is finding satisfying and cathartic.

Further news is that she's pregnant again, at 40
