Glastonbury 2022: Kendrick Lamar
He headlined the Pyramid stage on the Friday night, in line with his recent new album. He delivered an entertaining and lengthy set which ended with a pointed rant about the recent US Supreme Court reversal. Also in the show were clips from Lorde, Charli XCX, Courtney Barnett and Bicep.

TRSNMT (Saturday)
The middle day of the Scottish festival seemed slightly less focused than the first, but there were performances from Griff, Wet Leg, Example, Bemz, Retro Video, The Snuts, Maximo Park, Fontaines DC, Self Esteem, Jimmy Eat World, Foals and the Strokes.

Cheltenham Literature Festival 2021: Skin
Sophie K had a 1-on-1 chat with the Skunk Anansie frontwoman about her book "It Takes Blood and Guts". SA were never part of Britpop, which worked well for them, they were big in Europe and even the USA. Journo Lucy O'Brien jogged her to write the book, as otherwise her story could easily be ignored and forgotten about. Hence chat on Glastonbury and how their headline set from 1999 was flat-out ignored when Beyonce and Stormzy got booked to do the same. She enjoyed being a contestant on the Masked Singer.

TRNSMT (Sunday)
The final day saw perhaps longer coverage of acts like Sigrid and Easy Life, but still several less familiar names like Dylan John Thomas and Medicine Cabinet. The headliner was another Scottish act, Lewis Capaldi.

Wireless Festival 2022
The 3rd festival happening on the same weekend, this time in Finsbury Park, London. Highlights ensured that each featured act got maybe more time than just "one song and you're off". H.E.R., Roddy Ricch, Megan Thee Stallion, Jack Harlow, Giveon, Summer Walker, Lil Baby and Cardi B were all included, with WAP saved for the end.

First Night of the Proms (2022)
Back once again and for a full 8 weeks, all being well. Sakari Oramo conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra through Verdi's Requiem.

Artist's Den presents The Black Crowes
Sadly, just not memorable enough for me to be sure whether I might have seen it before, since it was filmed in September 2009, and though spiritedly performed, and the Oxford (Mississippi) crowd were entertained, it kinda blurred into one long mass.

Radiohead - A Classic Album Under Review
That album being their 1997 effort OK Computer. Barney Hoskyns and other journo/biographer types considered it on a track by track basis, though starting with Paranoid Android. I used to have a copy, and was almost persuaded I should get another.

BBC Proms 22: British Classics
A lengthy selection with John Wilson conducting the Sinfonia of London through works by Vaughan Williams, Bax, Walton, Elgar and Watkins, whilst the reliable Neil Brand punditted alongside comedian Vikki Stone and broadcaster Rob Rinder.

Sight & Sound In Concert - Chris de Burgh / Gilbert O'Sullivan
Interesting time capsule from the Golders Green Hippodrome in 1978. Chris was very much still in his early days though played both A Spaceman Came Travelling and Spanish Train, whilst Gilbert's heyday had passed but he was still able to deliver a rollicking turn, ending with Get Down. He recently had a new album out, perhaps why this was repeated.

Sessiwn Fawr - Dathlu'r 30: Dolgeallau 2022
Another Welsh festival, this time with Candelas, Eadyth, NoGood Boyo, Gwilym Bowen Rhys, Skerryvore, Tara Bandito, Morgan Elwy and Swnami.

BBC Proms '22: Music For Royal Celebrations
Barry Wordsworth conducted the BBC Concert Orchestra through a lengthy and mixed program, taking in Handel, Elgar, Britten, Parry, Vaughan Williams and even Henry VIII (though scotching the urban myth that he wrote Greensleeves).

Go Go With Matt Monro
A one-off show from 1966 in which Matt sang on location and then in studio with guests like Marion Montgomery and Roy Castle.

Sight & Sound In Concert - UB40
From the Regal Theatre, Hitchin, 1983, and with a short set from their existing catalogue, most of which was new to me but generally impressive, and they even did One In Ten.

Hawkwind - "Solstice at Stonehenge 1984"
The last year when an annual festival was legally okay at the famous heritage spot, the full bill included the likes of Roy Harper, but here was Hawkwind's plentiful set, including a separate section as the sun rose.

BBC Proms '22: Radio 1 Relax at the Proms
Sian Eleri introduced Kojey Radical and friends, whom included Tiana Major9, Poppy Ajudha and Cashh, all getting somewhat better coverage than usual.

It's Only Rock N Roll: Rock N Roll at the BBC
A muddled selection from 2015, including R&R acts like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, and also acts who've done songs with R&R in the title, such as Oasis and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Again, a few faces who wouldn't otherwise get the coverage.

Dame Janet Baker Sings
A short performance from Queen's Hall, Edinburgh, in 1981, as Raymond Leppard conducted the Scottish Chamber Orchestra through pieces by Mendelssohn and Handel.

Idles - Main Square Festival
From Arras, France, in 2019, a steady hour or more of stuff.

Raise The Roof - Concert for Prostate Cancer
As good a reason as any. From the Royal Albert Hall, with Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra as the house band whilst various musicians came on to do a song, from Paloma Faith and Emeli Sande, through Celeste and Mel C, to Van Morrison and the inevitable Ruby Turner.

BBC Proms '22: Seascapes
Andrew Manze conducted the BBC National Orchestra of Wales through a programme with two less familiar composers in Carwithen and Williams, before the main event from Vaughan Williams.

Neighbours - Greatest Hits
A heartfelt round-up of the great and the less great from 37 years of soap stars turned pop stars. Kylie and Jason led things off, but Holly Valance, Natalie Imbruglia and Delta Goodrem all did well, and whilst a few seemed a bit tangential, such as Angry Anderson and Rogue Traders, they did include Russell Crowe's Thirty Off Foot of Grunt side-project and it wouldn't be complete without Stefan Dennis.

MTV Live Sessions
Unsure if a one-off or what. A similar format to other such shows, mixing the familiar like Pip Millett and Tate McRae, with less familiar faces like Manlo Diao and Imen Star, as well as those like Tove Lo.

Sight & Sound - In Concert - Joan Armatrading
Sadly not memorable enough to tell if I'd seen it before. This 1977 gig from the Hammersmith Odeon was lively enough, and Joan bantered well with a sometimes vocal crowd.

BBC Proms '22: Sir Mark Elder and the Halle
A rather steady mix of watery themed works, with Puccini's main event somewhat overshadowed by a complex Respighi piece, and the opener from Dukas - the much-loved Sorceror's Apprentice.

Jeff Buckley - Everybody Here Wants You
His dad made 9 albums and died young; he made one and also died young. He was working on a 2nd album which would be a radical change when it happened. Celebrity fans still in sorrow ranged from Patti Smith and Badly Drawn Boy to Brad Pitt and Chrissie Hynde.

Neighbours Made Me A Star
Another show marking the end of the Aussie soap. The stories of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are fairly familiar, but this did also cover Natalie Imbruglia, Holly Valance, Delta Goodrem and even Stefan Dennis, who had varying successes and problems.

The Grateful Dead
A lengthy concert film from the Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco in 1974 (or culled from 5 nights, with some extra segments from the crowd). I'm always surprised by the disparity between the band's fearsome reputation and their generally MOR sound.

BBC Proms '22: Gaming Music - 8-Bit to Infinity
Robert Ames conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra through various tunes from gaming history, many of which I'd neither heard, nor heard of, but which were pleasant enough and quite in keeping.

Electric Proms '08: The Streets & Heritage Orchestra
Like the above Joan Armatrading concert, not memorable enough to avoid possibly re-watching. Streets managed one #1 single and an accompanying hit album, and is I believe still a going concern. The inclusion of HO was of marginally more interest.

Sounds of Birmingham at the BBC
As plausible a reason as any, running the gamut from Black Sabbath and UB40, through to Ocean Colour Scene and Apache Indian, to Toyah and Fuzzbox. The appealing random-ness peaked with the consecutive run of Joan Armatrading, Judas Priest and Jamelia.

Belladrum '22 (Day 1)
Highlights from the opening day of this Scottish festival, often with chats to the acts, who ranged from Kawala and Magic Numbers, to Emeli Sande, Passenger and Admiral Fallow.

Click
One-off inclusion as there were features on both the recent Gaming Prom, and also how the growth in vinyl records raises environmental issues, which are being faced by a company using a new "greener" form of vinyl.

Belladrum '22 (Day 2)
The middle day saw The Fratellis headlining, but plenty of other performances from Tamzene, Kinnaris Quintet, Blue Rose Code, Tide Lines and lesser names like Siobhan Miller, The Lottery Winners and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram.

Artists Den presents John Legend
In December 2016, he did his stuff at the Riverside Church in New York, and it was what you'd probably expect.

BBC Proms '22: Yuja Wang & Klaus Makela
Makela conducted the Oslo Philharmonic through works by Sibelius, Liszt and Strauss. Wang was the superstar pianist in to show off during the Liszt and then do a couple of encores of Bizet and Gluck.

Belladrum '22: Emeli Sande
In fact, around 2/3 of this show came from Admiral Fallow, which was fine, with a bit of Sande tacked on the end.

From The Vaults: Electronic
A special edition which ranged from Gary Numan and early Ultravox, through Thomas Dolby and Herbie Hancock, on to Sigue Sigue Sputnik and very early Pet Shop Boys, as well as New Order, Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears.

BBC Proms '22: Elgar's Cello Concerto
Eva Ollikainen conducted the BBC Philharmonic through a world premiere from Anna Thorvaldsdottir, the titular piece from Elgar (with an encore of a Ukrainian folk song) and the main event being one of Silbelius' symphonies.

Tenacious D - Live In London
They were at the Brixton Academy around 2003, and did a fairly well-received show.

Monitor: Portrait of a Composer
Ken Russell directed this 1962 profile of Edward Elgar, narrated by Huw Wheldon, and a fascinating piece of work.

Flying Dream 1 - Elbow
A short profile of the Manchester band making their most recent album around Brighton last summer.

Isle of MTV - Highlights 2022
A selection from Malta, with BBNO$, Mae Muller, and longer spells from French Montana and Marshmello.

BBC Proms '22: NYO Plays Gershwin, Elfman and Ravel
The annual outing for the National Youth Orchestra, under Andrew Gourlay's conducting, started with a premiere from Danny Elfman, who came to sit in the studio too. One of the guests was Isobel Waller-Bridge who was credited amongst other things with the music for Fleabag (starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge). Segun Akinola was the other guest though.

Belladrum '22: The Fratellis / Shed Seven
I suspect these longer-form shows will appeal more later in the series with acts who weren't already quite covered in the main shows (Shed Seven an after thought here, though they I think had a bigger and better chart career than the Fratellis).

TOTP2: Donna Summer
A round-up of performances, though she seemingly only came to the TOTP studio twice during the late 1980s. Still, it's the thought that counts, possibly.

50 Cent: Rise Above - An Unauthorised Story
A mercifully short look from 2008, covering his early attempts in the music business, the shooting which changed everything, and help from Eminem, and feuds with The Game, among others.

BBC Proms '22: Marin Alsop
The acclaimed conductor brought her Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra for its Proms debut, and they had a busy program of Bartok, Prokofiev, Ravel, Dvorak and a UK premiere of a new work by Hannah Eisendle.

MTV World Stage: MIAW 2022
Time for some Latin American regional awards, one from Mexico City in July, and the other from Sao Paulo also in July. The award themselves didn't feature in this compilation of performances from regional stars like Manuel Tunzo or Pedro Sampaio.

Radio 1 Dance: Diplo
A continuous hour-long set from the Mambo Cafe on Ibiza.

Music Legends: The Supremes
How the various singers came together and were signed by Motown, had many US #1 singles, and eventually became subservient to the Diana Ross phenomenon.

Secrets & Scandals of Top of the Pops
A mixture of tittle-tattle really, from the dubious rules on live performance, to miming mishaps, and so on. Good that many behind-the-scenes contributors (lighting guys, floor managers etc) were given their chance to talk for once. The rueful final chapter covered the scandals of Jimmy Savile.

Prince: The Glory Years
A pretty thorough account running up to the end of the 1980s. He was clearly a prodigy who proved himself repeatedly, got away with more than many even tried, and even when projects or albums were disappointing, he could still produce one good gem to cover it.

10 Best: Elgar
From 2007, a rundown voted for by the public to decide the composer's greatest works. His Cello Concerto came out on top, ahead of Nimrod.

BBC Proms '22: Cynthia Erivo
Edwin Outwater conducted the BBC Concert Orchestra as Ms Erivo belted out a number of familiar numbers, from Don't Rain on my Parade and Love Me or Leave Me through to La Vie en Rose and Midnight Train to Georgia, before ending on Nothing Compares 2 U.

Reading + Leeds 2022: Dave
He became their youngest ever headliner, being a measly 24, and he got AJ Tracey on as a guest.

On The Road with Tenacious D
Somewhat behind the scenes production with Jack and Kyle, with some performance and some skits.

Radio 1 Relax: Franky Wah - Skyline Session
Never heard of him, he's a DJ. He did a short set, with Anelisa Lamola singing along to a few covers, and also AR/CO.

Reading + Leeds 2022: Arctic Monkeys
Their first appearance there since 2014, but went down very well with the crowd. Maybe their upcoming album will put them back on a more successful track.

BBC Proms '22: Sir Simon Rattle plays Mahler
Rattle gave an introduction to a piece than the late Sir Harrison Birtwistle wrote for him, and also discussed his longstanding affection for Mahler's 2nd Symphony. He's soon to leave his post conducting the London Symphony Orchestra.

BBC Proms '22: Earth Prom
Ben Palmer conducted the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra through several pieces which have been used in wildlife programmes, before the main event which was a new work, Earth Symphony, combining the efforts of 5 different composers.

Music Legends: Englebert Humperdinck
Likely to be the last of these I'll see. He never really got past being a poor man's Tom Jones, and despite his undoubted success in 1967, the hits soon tailed off, and he remained a live and album act. He's 86 now.

The White Stripes - Under Great White Northern Lights
Intriguing road movie from the summer of 2007, as Jack and Meg traipsed around Canada gigging in towns big and small, venues big and small. Jack does the lion's share of the talking, and even gets to a skit where he complains about how quiet her voice is even when she does occasionally talk. The crowds seemed chuffed.

Belladrum '22: Edwyn Collins / I See Rivers
The former Orange Juice frontman is still battling away and seemed in good enough form. ISR got less air-time but still got through several songs.

Maes B: Tregaron 2022
A Welsh festival which had a storyline rather than presenters, inbetween music from Stafell Byw, Skylrk, Mali Haf, Eadyth, Mellt and finally Adwaith.

BBC Proms '22: 100 Years of the BBC
Quirky band Public Service Broadcasting presented their new composition, This New Noise, with help from the ubiquitous Jules Buckley this time conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and also Seth Lakeman on one song, and several samples of BBC-speak, largely from the earlier days of the corporation.

Foo Fighters and the Hawkins Family Presents: Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert
A curious mix of predictable and now. Pretenders, Brian Johnson, Lars Ulrich, Brian May and Roger Taylor and various singers. Best of all was Josh Homme, backed by Nile Rodgers, doing Let's Dance.

Belladrum '22: Kawala and Kinnaris Quintet
Quite a balanced mix for once, also including Rosie H Sullivan who got to be interviewed, as did Kawala.

Les Bicyclettes de Belsize
Short film from 1969 best remembered for Engelbert Humperdinck singing the title song. Anthony May and Judy Huxtable sang and acted out a rather slight, but still charming, love story.

Artists Den presents Crowded House
Back in August 2007, the lads rocked at the Masonic Hall Grand Lodge in New York.

Gary Numan - Resurrection
His story, again, mixed with his recent Intruder tour, whose UK dates culminated in his first Wembley shows in almost 40 years. The fans were happy, his wife and daughters were happy, fans like John Foxx, Dave Grohl, Jean-Michel Jarre, Hans Zimmer and Trent Reznor were happy, and there's every indication Gary was happy too.

BBC Proms '22: Nicola Benedetti plays Wynton Marsalis
A busy schedule with Thomas Sondergard conducting the Royal Scottish National Orchestra through works by Ades, Bernstein and the titular Marsalis piece which featured the violin whizz Nicola Benedetti.

Berlin Live: Sparks
A hearty showcase from 2017, mixing old and new from one of the more under-rated and longer-lasting electro-pop duos in the business.

BBC Proms '22: Unmissable Moments
A compilation from the sadly truncated season, with probably all their various presenters able to contribute, even those who only did the odd one.

This Is Amapiano
South Africa is apparently a hotspot for the newest big sound around. Producers and performers alike had plenty to say, though time will tell how far it might get over here.

100 Years of Big Bands - Len Phillips Swing Orchestra
Joe Pettit MC'd and conducted, as well as introducing vocal contributions from Matthew Ford and Nicola Emmanuelle. The 1930s-1960s seemed the golden age, with Michael Buble and Harry Connick Jr mentioned as notable exceptions since the heyday.

Elizabeth's Battle for God's Music
Lucy Worsley had another royal-themed plod here, how Henry VIII's views led to Elizabeth I's adovcacy of evensong in church.

Belladrum: Matilda Mann
As well as the promoted act, there was stuff from the entertaining Hamish Hawk, and the also entertaining The Lottery Winners.

HARDtalk: Omah Lay
He's a rising Afrobeat talent who was pressed on his seemingly apolitical stance, and his working with Justin Bieber. He had made some campaigning work, about police brutality for example. Despite being repeatedly pressed, he rejected the idea of making music just for a market decision rather than from an artistic impulse.

PJ Harvey - Auf dem Festival - Nuits de Fourviere
From Lyon in June 2016, a lengthy set featuring some of her more recognisable numbers amidst plenty of others. Critically adored, less commercially popular.

Toto - In Concert - Baloise Session 2015
They played Africa to close, but there were plenty of other crowd treats like Hold The Line and Rosanna before then. They mentioned their then-current album being Toto XIV!

Berlin Live - Mike + the Mechanics
From 2017, I still find it odd that Roachford has been subsumed into another concern, though I suppose it was odd when it was Paul Carrack in that role. Quite a hit-busy selection, they were also plugging a then-current album which was Let Me Fly.

Kool and the Gang - In Concert - Baloise Session 2015
Quite a hit-friendly show, from Jungle Boogie to Get Down On It and finishing with Celebration. Give me Cherish any day.

Kylie at the BBC
Another of these compilations, from 34 years of choices, plus a few chat show appearances too.
