American rapper and actor DMX has died aged 50 following a heart attack earlier this month RIP

Yes, sad news. I suppose after the heart attack it was only a matter of time. RIP 

Eddie Rothe died the other day at the age of 67. He was a member of late 70s band Liquid Gold, and was the other half of cruise singer turned telly personality Jane MacDonald. RIP 

Mike Mitchell, guitarist in the Kingsmen, has died at 77. He did the Louie Louie riff, apparently, though he must have been incredibly young when he did.

Barry Mason has also died, at 85. A legendary song-writer, he worked on Delilah and The Last Waltz, to name but two.

70s pin-ups Bay City Rollers' lead singer Les McKeown died suddenly at the age of 65. BCR has 2 UK #1's, and their tartan apparel and complete lack of any connection with the real Bay City were part of their appeal. Les always came across well on nostalgia shows. RIP 

Opera singer Christa Ludwig has died at the age of 93. RIP

Famous Belgian Marcel Stellman has died at 96. Besides helping launch British quiz show classic Countdown, Marcel came from the music business where among other works he helped create the song Tulips From Amsterdam. RIP 

80s icon Nick Kamen sadly died this week at 59, after a battle with cancer. He came to fame in a jeans commercial, but went on to brief pop fame with Each Time You Break My Heart, co-written with Madonna. RIP 

Lloyd Price, the singer who scaled the charts in the late 50s with hits like “Stagger Lee” and “Personality,” has passed at age 88. RIP

The legendary BJ Thomas has passed at 78. He may be best remembered for film tune "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head".

Also at the other end of the scale, rapper Lil Loaded has taken his own life. He was just 20.

To be brutally honest, I only knew him as "rapper Biz Markie". But it's a sad day all the same 

Robby Steinhardt, Violinist and Co-Lead Vocalist of Kansas, Dead at 71 RIP

Very sad. I know Kansas have a higher reputation in the US than they do here, besides maybe "Carry on Wayward Son". RIP anyway 

Legendary Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has died at the age of just 46. He had left the group a while back and been in poor health. RIP

Influential DJ Paul Johnson sadly died from covid this week. He was only 50, and will be best remembered for his 1999 hit "Get Get Down". RIP 

Dennis Thomas, one of the key players in Kool and the Gang, has died at the age of 70. RIP 

Don Everly, of harmonizing rock 'n' roll pioneers the Everly Brothers, dies at 84. Also, Country singer Tom T. Hall has passed away at 85. He was called 'The Story Teller' of Country. He was the writer of 'Harper Valley PTA'. RIP to both.

Yes, both a sad loss. Only Everly has been mentioned over here though. RIP 

Brian Travers, sax player with UB40, has sadly died at 62. I saw him interviewed on a show, and though he'd had health issues, this is still a sad shock. RIP 

Also gone are Richard and Wyn Jones, Welsh brothers who had success with Ail Symudiad in the 1970s and 1980s, and on whom I've just watched a profile. Wyn died of cancer in June, and Richard died at the end of July. They both came across as lovely characters. RIP both 

Legendary producer Lee "Scratch" Perry has died at 85. Having looked pretty ancient for really quite a long time, he endured very well, and was warmly remembered by many in the business. RIP 

Even older and more legendary than the above, Greek film composer Mikis Theodorakis has died at 96. His immortal classic is the music from "Zorba the Greek". RIP 

Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding lost her battle with cancer. She was only 39. GA came to fame by winning Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 and scored 2 #1 singles soon after. Unlike most of the other band members, she didn't try a solo career. RIP 

Also passed in Sunil Perera, a big name in the Sri Lankan baila scene. He died from covid-related complications. He was 68:
