Re: Ed Sheeran
I wouldn't have thought Stormzy & co were up your street, but then the list as a whole is quite diverse

Re: Ed Sheeran
Mercury Prize to be announced tonight. Sheeran is not expected to win, though. Here are recent odds:
Kate Tempest – Let Them Eat Chaos: 5/2
Sampha – Process: 7/2
Stormzy – Gang Signs and Prayer: 6/1
Loyle Carner – Yesterday’s Gone: 8/1
J Hus – Common Sense: 10/1
Glass Animals – How to Be a Human Being: 12/1
The xx – I See you: 12/1
Alt-J – Relaxer: 16/1
Dinosaur – Together, As One: 16/1
Ed Sheeran – ÷: 20/1
The Big Moon – Love In The 4th Dimension: 20/1
Blossoms – Blossoms: 33/1
I wouldn't be over-shocked at J Hus or Blossoms taking it.

Re: Ed Sheeran
Sampha won; Idris Elba presented the award (talk about telegraphing a result - they were hardly going to book him to give it to Ed Sheeran).

Shape of You is now supposedly the 3rd biggest single in UK history

Platinum (x5)
When streams and downloads are added together, it works out as three million sales, according to the BPI which represents the UK music industry.
Only Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? and Elton John's Candle In The Wind '97 have sold more copies in the UK.

Apparently he was hit by a car“I’ve had a bit of a bicycle accident and I’m currently waiting on some medical advice, which may affect some of my upcoming shows,”

Re: Ed Sheeran
Ed has indeed had to cancel shows.
BBC Music Introducing - 10 Years of finding the Next Big Thing
Through a process of websites and local radio, the BBC claims to have helped acts like Ed Sheeran find their first steps, and here was a special concert at the Brixton Academy, notably not including Ed (though he did talk in footage between the performances). But George Ezra, Slaves and Jake Bugg were amongst those not too big to give it a miss.

Re: Ed Sheeran
Perfect has become his 4th #1 single, thanks partly to a new version turning it into a duet with Beyoncé. Ed claims to have something up his sleeve to help it stay at the top for Christmas. We'll see.

Re: Ed Sheeran
I notice he's managed to get a US #1 too, thanks to cunning use of Beyoncé. His big plan to get the UK Christmas #1 involves this new version, plus a further quasi-orchestral version too.
Given there are 17 Christmas oldies in the UK top 40, I don't think his blatant antics are the worst problem, though.

Ed did indeed manage to cap off the biggest year of his career with the UK Christmas #1 (which I see he also bagged for the US as well). Well done that man

He announced his engagement the other day, to Cherry Seaborn, and now says that he'll take a sabbatical from music while he sees about starting a family.

The Biggest Weekend: Ed Sheeran
He made something of a guest turn here, early in the day as he had to go and do his own tour gig in the evening. But he kept the crowd happy with several hits from across his career.

Sounds Like Home
A short show about a joint project between SoFar Sounds and Amnesty International. Their Global Concert series featured Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran, and less familiar names like Elaha Soroor and Simo Lagnawi.
Ed also made news at a more recent concert when he had to nip off for a toilet break twice in a short space of time. Glamour, huh?

Re: Ed Sheeran
He's busy busy busy in the news again.
He's getting sued (again apparently) about whether Thinking Out Loud is a rip-off of Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On. This seems to be less about propriety, and more about there being multiple groups with a part-ownership of LGIO already.
He had to change venue for a gig in Dusseldorf over an environmental concern.
And he was refused permission to use a chapel on his own land for his wedding.

Re: Ed Sheeran
He's announced "homecoming" gigs:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-45585700
Plenty of notice there. He will play two gigs at Chantry Park, and also two at Roundhay Park, Leeds.
The Yorkshire dates, on 16 and 17 August, will also have a homecoming feel to them - as Sheeran was born in Halifax before moving to Suffolk.
It is thought his gigs on 23 and 24 August at Chantry Park will have a capacity of 45,000 each night.

BBC Radio 2 In Concert: Ed Sheeran
A steady enough show with material from all 3 albums, and some banter inbetween, such as seeing Marilyn Manson in concert in Nashville himself recently, and his gladness that few of the audience were recording the gig on phones which he put down to the gig itself being recorded by the BBC anyway. He managed to name-check Julie Fowlis too, though rather as someone he's just discovered rather than someone who'd been around quite a while.

Mixed news items. He donated some Lego sets to a local school as compensation for not agreeing to be a patron or governor or something (Lego House, geddit?)
But then there's been a fire on his estate in Anglia

Whilst his 4th album remains to come, he's helped Bryan Adams write the title track from his new #2 album Shine A Light, which refers to the recent death of Bryan's father.

He's back a bit more now, with the track "I Don't Care", helped by Justin Bieber, which stands a strong chance of being #1 in the UK later today.

He's got a new album coming in July containing collaborations (such as the Bieber one). He'll also be doing some touring, with Lewis Capaldi in support.

He's today been hailed the most played act in 2018, for the 3rd time in 4 years. The most played song was Portugal the Man's Feel It Still. Ed's collab with Justin Bieber is up to 4 weeks at #1.

Re: Ed Sheeran
His legal case about Thinking out Loud has been postponed for a few months.
In better news, his new No 6 album is out today, and probably gonna be #1 next week.

It outsold the rest of the top 30 to do so.misery guts wrote:

And Beautiful People bumped up to #1 for the first time. Due to the arcane "3 & out" rules on multiple entries, his former #1 I Don't Care has dropped out altogether. "5 & out" would seem a better net, but it's a bit late now and I doubt they'll change it.

Re: Ed Sheeran
Again due to the silly chart rules, he's got another #1 with his Stormzy collab Take Me Back to London. He did get grief from Wiley for supposed appropriation, but Stormzy obviously defended Ed.
His legal issues have also returned, as further acts make claims of him nicking stuff off them.
He ended his record-breaking tour with a few "homecoming" gigs, at which he claimed it might be the last time he uses the infamous loop pedal on his records.

Ed Sheeran - In His Own Words
A lengthy consideration of his career, all 4 albums worth so far, his humble starts in the business, his song-writing friends from those early days, his collaborators like Taylor Swift and Pharrell Williams, his success at Glastonbury, his use of the loop pedal, and what the future may hold.

Spotify have released data about their most-streamed stuff of the decade.

Shape of You came out on top, with 2.4 billion streams.
In other news, Stormzy revealed that Jay Z was dropped from Take Me Back To London on Stormzy's insistence:
