While I chart the music I have yet to hear Lewis Capaldi or Tones And I. Predicting early that Dance Monkey will hit #1 here soon. Ever since the mockery of streaming took over the charts are predictable. I called Lewis half a year ago. Will give both songs a fair listen today though gonna call it now. The highest debuts these days seem most likely to be the first to fall right out until months later when it gets aired on freaking SNL. Surely I cannot be the only one that sees a pattern here.

I didn't follow Dance Monkey until the week before it was #1. It amused me that the stat became "No 1 in 10 countries... but not the US". I've now felt vested in seeing how it goes in the US chart. Once you know she's Australian, it suddenly makes a lot more sense.

Ride It might be more your thing, musically at least.

The wretched Christmas deluge is back in the UK...

...meanwhile Dance Monkey has equalled the 10-week record for female artists at #1, shared by I Will Always Love You (1992-3) and Umbrella (2007)  cheers

Mariah has finally hit #1 with her Christmas song. Rolling Eyes Some will applaud it. Some remember the years when Christmas music barely scratched the surface of Top 40 because music was awesome in general. Very hard for an 80's kid to absorb the rubbish we have now days. In other news, "Heartless" by The Weeknd has dipped from #1 to #17. I'll have to fact check, but think that's the biggest drop ever from a #1 position. As per usual, streaming is a terrible method of charting, imho. I would only invest in Billboard if I needed paper at the bottom of a bird cage. I see Juice WRLD is all over the charts again, which is fine. Might be more believable if we had a little something by Roxette. Forgive my grim outlook.

Yes, we've heard about Mariah. I'm perhaps more bemused at Brenda Lee at #3, and Burl Ives at #10!?  Shocked

Fingers crossed, Mariah will be thwarted here once more. Looks like Dance Monkey will drop down after 11 weeks at the top. The downside is LadBaby is supposedly set for a 2nd consecutive Christmas #1 with a record just as empty as last year's (here rewriting Joan Jett's I Love Rock N Roll). So things could be worse.

A-ha. Hate to sound like a broken record (no pun intended) Smile    I did indeed fact check my above post. Funny how Billboard has failed to mention that in any of their recent articles ... lol. Might I predict that this will become "a thing" in the coming decade.

Google --- 'List of Billboard Hot 100 chart achievements and milestones' for tons more info.

Biggest drop from number one
1–17 – The Weeknd – "Heartless" (December 21, 2019)
1–15 – Billy Preston – "Nothing from Nothing" (October 26, 1974)
1–15 – Dionne Warwicke and The Spinners – "Then Came You" (November 2, 1974)
1–12 – Simon & Garfunkel – "The Sound of Silence" (January 29, 1966)
1–12 – Barry White – "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" (September 28, 1974)
1–12 – Andy Kim – "Rock Me Gently" (October 5, 1974)
1–12 – Stevie Wonder – "You Haven't Done Nothin'" (November 9, 1974)
1–12 – Bachman–Turner Overdrive – "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" (November 16, 1974)
1–12 – John Lennon and Plastic Ono Band – "Whatever Gets You thru the Night" (November 23, 1974)
1–11 – Diana Ross – "Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)" (January 31, 1976)

You don't get that kind of thing here so much, though Take Me Back to London recently dropped from #1 to #13, and the Three Lions record in the summer of 2018 went from #1 out of the 40 altogether, possibly even the 100.

And of course the Christmas records all conspicuously drop off the 40 a week later, which last year involved #2 and about 25 others...

Further to the above, this week Tones & I became another one to drop big from #1 to #10 as the weight-changing rule I think kicked in for her.

Last year's UK Xmas #1 LadBaby dropped from #1 to #21 the week after. Next week we shall see whether he can match that.

That's quite a hefty drop. There was a time that would have been front page news lol. Should be interesting to see how far Mariah tumbles this week, or if she completely falls out.

Eminem has "dropped" a new album here, which has led to a 9th #1 single, (and a posthumous 1st for Juice WRLD).

I see that the above has finally climbed to #1 in the USA too, and quite right. Back at #1 in the UK also  cheers "this city's cold and empty" indeed.

I must admit that I've not listened to one song this year. All of the crap has made it impossible for me to separate the good music from the rubbish. I've heard rave reviews on this song so I broke down and gave it a listen. Glad I did! Funny enough the last #1 we had that I truly liked besides Sia 'Cheap Thrills' was The Weeknd's 'Can't Feel My Face'.

Last week's charity #1 rather dropped off the pace this week, down to #21  Shocked But it's been replaced by a more "cool" charity #1, both a more modern cover (of the sainted Foo Fighters, no less), and a groovy tech-led collaboration between multiple "cool" names of the moment. This is exactly the kind of project I know Al scorns in the US, and I have to say I'm in agreement with him, good cause or no good cause.

Change in the UK too as the disappointing DaBaby was knocked off after a month at the top, by a "big summer hit" by Jawsh 685 and a 5th #1 for Jason Derulo. Tiktok is to blame...  Rolling Eyes

...whilst the UK has a new #1 too. After 6 weeks, the excellent team of Joel Corry and MNEK have been replaced by another remarkable team in Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, also scoring debut #1's...  Idea

And another week of awful crap. "Franchise - Travis Scott feat. Young Thug & M.I.A." becomes the biggest dropper from #1 as it slides all the way to #25. Earlier this year convict child loving crapper 6ix9ine had that feat with his awful crap "Trollz" which dipped from #1 to #17.
"Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac re-enters the Hot 100 at #21 due to some juice commercial. Best looked up as I have no idea what promoted it, nor care. Still, probably the only sane song in the entire countdown. scratch   elephant   Sleep
