Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera, The Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, Suede bassist Mat Osman and Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes have come together to make up Chaz Chance And The Prophets.

The fictional rock band was put together to feature in a new UK TV series called The Records, which tells the story of the ups and downs of a music industry talent agent.

Vocalists Ali Campbell and Astro and keyboardist Mickey Virtue, who together started the act in 1978, said on their website they were recording new songs.

Campbell and Virtue left the band in 2008 and Astro quit in November 2013.

The Canadian rock band completed a 40th anniversary North American tour this summer amid rumours it might be their last.

Earlier this week it was reported drummer Neil Peart considered himself "retired".

But in an interview with the BBC, Lee said he was "optimistic" that Rush would play live again.

Paramore bassist Jeremy Davis has left the band.

Davis has been a member of the band since 2005 and has played on all four of Paramore's studio albums. The band announced the news via a Facebook statement, confirming that they will continue as a two-piece with lead singer Hayley Williams and guitarist Taylor York.

The group say they are going their separate ways at their "creative peak".

"The decision has obviously been an incredibly difficult one, given that The Maccabees has been such a huge part of our lives until now," the band said in a statement.

Their last album, Marks to Prove It, was their first number one in the UK and they recently headlined Latitude festival.

The Japanese boy band, which sold 35m records up to last year, will disband on 31 December, its management agency said on Sunday.

Rumours of a split had been rife since the turn of the year, but had all previously been denied.

Its five members, who are aged between 39 and 43, are now expected to pursue solo careers.

The band, formed in 1988, has built up a huge fanbase in Japan and throughout Asia with members appearing frequently in films, soap operas, and commercials.

Members of SMAP, which stands for "Sports Music Assemble People", have also appeared on cookery shows and Japanese coverage of the Rio Olympics.

Twin brothers Matt and Luke Goss will play London's O2 Arena next August. But original bassist Craig Logan will not take part in the reunion.
"I've always wanted it to happen in my heart," Luke said. "But I wanted it to be the right time."

They said they would play London's O2 arena on 19 August 2017 - the anniversary of their last ever gig, at Wembley Stadium in 1989.
The show sold out "in seven seconds" on Friday morning, said promoters.
As a result, six further dates have been added, in Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Newcastle and Glasgow, along with a second night at the O2.
