80's "almost" covered
I have one piano off my back through charting the entire 80's by hand to keyboard. As I continue, I'd like to add more vids to the mix. Youtube, however, is as reliable as a tame possom. I'm going t6o continue charting, though will add vids on those lucky nights I have cocktails available to pass around.
Seriously, when (if) youtube gets its' act straight, I'll add vids. I have 1984 covered and the latter half of 83'. Like fine wine, these are vintage years.

I hope to get 1981 completed in the next few days. Since I've changed from hopping back and forth, things have gone a little quicker, which is the bottom line for me. 1982 is coming along nicely.
It's going to be a tortoise and hare effort though.

I've been so busy charting our own muck that I've barely touched on what charts you've supplied from the UK. I almost don't want to because I get envious as hell hah. You get all the goth, techno, trance while we get mainstream bubble gum music for the most part. We've had our wonderful eras, but can't think of any in this decade and it's almost 2110.
I never asked you to supply these wonderful charts. You just came aboard and started doing your thing. I can't tell you how appreciated that is! I can't wait to kick back and view the UK charts and youtube a song I've never heard that sounds promising.
Just to say, you rock! You've made this forum about two continents and I ADORE that! Now if some of these guests would join and say hi, it'd be even more wonderful. We put a ton of time and effort into this forum and really would love some feedback. Come on guests .... don't be shy.
Re: 60's or 00+
Well, I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't enjoy it, and get something out of it. It's nice to see songs in chart context, rather than as tracks on compilations, or on the radio, which is the usual way. It's also informative to learn about new songs I've never heard of, new acts who are familiar to other people, and tracks from classic artists which I'd never known existed, even though they clearly have.

Haven't been quite as prolific as I was before Christmas, but still staggering toward the end of 1985, so I'm pleased with how it's going.

60's or 00+
As you know, I'm very nearly done with the 90's. Which decade should I do next? 70's fans, be alert as my notebooks will confuse me if I don't chart the 60's first. I'm hot with the 60's though the joint in my mouth might say otherwise. Where should I start? I prefer to stay on a chart once I start it. Do we want 60's-70's or should I venture into 2000+?

Not sure what c&p means, but I'll move on into 2000+ Thanks. Very few members and no one ever seems to do more than look. Wish I could gain a few more members, but I suppose 2 decades isn't enough.

Just finished 1987, so that's nice, and 1988's motoring along.

Nicely done! I had a blast doing the eighties. 2002 is now complete. Moving onwards....
Re: 60's or 00+
Just got the last 4 months of 1989 to go... The 1990's will be a challenge, especially when they get to almost half new entries every week..!
I'm enjoying doing the more recent ones. Well, some of them

Well charted! You know, I'm completely intrigued by the UK 80's. So many familiar songs there that never broke into the top 40 in the states. Many of which came very close, but just didn't quite make it.
90's was also a challenge here. Starting in 1991, the rap started dominating the charts. Many a songs spent 20+ weeks in the Top 40, sometimes even a full year! Personally, I think that's rediculous. Even a really good song would start sounding old on the ears after even a few months. Because of the changed charting methods used here, we got far fewer debuts each week. While having a slew of new entries each week can be tedious to chart, I'm looking at the bright side. Imagine how many more songs you had in the UK to choose from.
Another highly tedious thing that occured starting in 2001 was the many #1 debuts from American Idol . Even The Beatles never scored at #1 debut. Here we have AI songs that start at the top and drop out in a matter of a few short weeks. Seems like a sales pitch on Billboard's part. Then again, I see you go through the same massacre with Britain's Got Talent . Yes, on a rare occasion, we both get a few good acts out of this, but is it worth all of the crap that comes along with it?
Yes, I was thrilled to be finished charting the 90's while the 80's were a pure joy. I can't wait to be caught up to the current times. It will be far easier being able to have to only update current charts weekly and spend the rest of the time catching up from 1960 onwards.
Re: 60's or 00+
There were so many 80s songs when I'm going "ooh, I know this one", and yet still more which came as a complete blank. I went through a bit of a blank around the year 2000, so some of those years will come as a surprise.
There are (and were) some good rap acts, but a lot of dross.
When you look back over 9 years of American Idol et al, you realise the only people to really profit from it, are Simon Cowell.

I thought I'd be able to C&P the recent UK ones more than I have, but I didn't start doing them until the start of 2009.
Have enjoyed doing 1960 lately, about 1 a week, just keeping with the quirk of those being the charts of half a century ago

Re: 60's or 00+
Absolutely I'm fonder of charting the 60's onwards. I wasn't born until 1971 and I really didn't even focus on music until the verrry early 80's. Ofcourse, the radio then familiarized me with the 70's through the "then" oldies. I know some 60's songs, aside from the obvious the we all know. I'm certainly no expert on the 60's, though I do admit charting / studying them says an awful lot! (In good ways)
Anywho, I just started 2009 today. I want to start fluxing between 1960 and 2009. You'll notice I did a bit of updating on 1960. As you start closing in on these dates, I'll add on. As anxious as I am to get current, it's so relaxing charting the 60's.
I know I'm a wayz off, but the 70's are going to be a riot!

Cheers!
The fun with the 60s & 70s is following the careers of the really big names in pop & rock (not that Madonna or Michael Jackson aren't really big, I hasten to add). Going "look, Roy Orbison! The Beach Boys! The Beatles! The Stones! The Who! The Eagles! etc"

Try as I may, that is too UK for me hah. As you know, we are current! I've spent all day + some doing the 60's.
Accomplishments...
..... 1983 .... Many videos were bad by now. New links and removed some fluff. I had a boatload of new smileys but I see X's now. That's bullshyt! Will remove as I find and check vids. I'm going to change the writing into links to vids (starting with newest) soon. It's tedious that I have to keep tabs on utube, but hey. I want awesome.
Now doing 1961 onwards. Lots and lots of work to do besides charting. You should start seeing pics soon enough, rah.....
Adric
Check the latest 2010 chart. Can always start this way and work backward .... or if I have some green, I can hit it in reverse. Videos under pics.

Yes, I was just feeling smug to be keeping up with you on 2009-10, and now I'm not entirely sure how I've got out of sync. It'll be right eventually, I'm not c&p all the way through.
I've enjoyed my last 2 weekends trying to push 1960 forwards. It can get a bit tedious from time to time, that's why I keep chopping about.

I know just what you mean. In the 60's so far, there's ALWAYS a Johnny or a Bobby hah. After the mid 90's it's all so and so featuring so and so. 80's were so much fun. The 60's is still in the early stages, but progressing along. 70's should be a riot!
As far as vids go, with your permission, I'll add your debuts as they score. I basically only listen to UK charts anyways.....
Re: 60's or 00+
If you add vids in the 1980's, that's cool since we've done those.

Yeah, I worked out the problem. All my post-1995 charts are a week out. But I'll put 'em right as I go along. Good reminder not to get too blase.misery guts wrote:Yes, I was just feeling smug to be keeping up with you on 2009-10, and now I'm not entirely sure how I've got out of sync. Enjoying working on with the 1960 ones. The less re-entries, the better, for me

Finished 1991 the other day, having looked out my Diary to find the 'top 40 of the year' data. I also found my 1990 diary appears to have gone astray Not sure whether it had anything relevant to these charts in it, but it's probably just ended up in a different place.
