Drake Ties James Brown's Record  Click for full detailed article.

Notably, Brown was the lead act on all 91 of his Hot 100 visits; Drake has been lead on 48 and featured on 43 of his 91, a reflection of hip-hop's trademark abundance of featured billings. Worth noting: Presley's 1956 arrival predated the Hot 100's 1958 launch by two years.

 Drake, "Back to Back"
Drake roars onto the Hot 100 with four tracks, led by "Back to Back" at No. 21 (122,000 first-week downloads sold). With the bows, he adds an impressive honor: he ties late R&B icon James Brown for the fourth-most entries, 91 each, in the Hot 100's 57-year history.

Here's an updated count of the acts with the most Hot 100 hits all-time:

207, Glee Cast
126, Lil Wayne
108, Elvis Presley
91, James Brown
91, Drake
83, Jay Z
74, Ray Charles
73, Aretha Franklin
72, Chris Brown
71, the Beatles

silent   No doubt these charts will be changing more frequently in the upcoming future. I find it positively insulting that Glee Cast are the toppers here. I'm sure The Beatles, Elvis, James Brown, etc etc would agree. Pathetic method of charting these days. Imagine what the charts would have looked like if they tallied them the same way back in the day. I'm no fan of Drake or Lil Wayne, but keep the (C)rap coming .... anything to knock out Glee!!!
I can tell you already that very soon this chart will get updated again. Very close runner-ups include Nicki Minaj, Eminem, T-Pain, Taylor Swift and Rihanna. To quote Queen Victoria, "I am not amused ... not remotely amused!"  silent

Drake Breaks Hot 100 Record With 20 Simultaneous Hits

As his new album 'Views' debuts atop the Billboard 200 and its single "One Dance" roars to No. 1 on the Hot 100, the rapper/singer adds a historic honor, posting a record-shattering 20 songs on the Hot 100.

As if debuting atop the Billboard 200 with his new album, Views, and scoring his first No. 1 as a lead artist on the Billboard Hot 100 with Views single "One Dance," featuring WizKid and Kyla, weren't enough, Drake makes history on the Hot 100, as he places a record-breaking 20 titles on the new May 21 tally, the most that any act has charted on the ranking in one week.

Drake Scores First Hot 100 No. 1 as Lead Artist

Drake passes the 17 songs that Justin Bieber boasted on the Dec. 5 Hot 100. That sum bested the 14 each that the Beatles logged on April 11, 1964, and that, guess who, Drake earned on the March 7 and Oct. 17 charts in 2015.

Drake's 'Views' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart, Sets Streaming Record

Here are Drake's unprecedented 20 songs on the latest Hot 100, including 16 debuts, also a one-week record for one artist (passing Bieber's 13 debuts on Dec. 5). Of his 20 titles, 18 are from Views:

No. 1, "One Dance," feat. WizKid & Kyla (up from No. 2)
No. 6, "Work," Rihanna feat. Drake (holds at No. 6)
No. 21, "Pop Style," feat. The Throne (up from No. 40)
No. 33, "Hype" (NEW)
No. 34, "Controlla" (NEW)
No. 38, "Grammys," feat. Future (NEW)
No. 40, "Still Here" (NEW)
No. 44, "U With Me?" (NEW)
No. 45, "9" (NEW)
No. 47, "With You," feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR (NEW)
No. 49, "Childs Play" (NEW)
No. 52, "Too Good," feat. Rihanna (NEW)
No. 53, "Feel No Ways" (NEW)
No. 54, "Weston Road Flows" (NEW)
No. 61, "Redemption" (NEW)
No. 68, "Keep the Family Close" (NEW)
No. 72, "Faithful," feat. Pimp C & dvsn (NEW)
No. 75, "Fire & Desire" (NEW)
No. 86, "Views" (NEW)
No. 89, "Summer Sixteen" (down from No. 73)

With 18 of Drake's 20 concurrent Hot 100 entries from Views, his 16 debuts join the set's "Dance" and "Pop Style" on the chart. ("Work" and "Summer Sixteen" are not on Views.) And, of the 20 songs on the album, all but two place on the chart this week: "Summers Over Interlude" and earlier smash "Hotline Bling," which reached No. 2 last year, are not on this week's chart.

Drake breaks UK singles chart record with One Dance

Drake has achieved a notable feat by having the longest-running UK number one single since legal music downloads began counting towards chart positions.
The rapper topped the singles chart for an 11th straight week with One Dance, his collaboration with Wizkid and Kyla.
His continued dominance means he, not on-off girlfriend Rihanna, now holds the record for the longest-running chart-topper of the 21st Century.
Her 2007 song Umbrella was the last record to achieve a double-digit reign.
One Dance held off a midweek challenge from French producer Kungs, whose remix of Cookin' On Three Burners' 2009 track This Girl was at number two.
Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop the Feeling remained at number three, while Calvin Harris and Rihanna's This Is What You Came For was at four.
In a top five identical to last week's countdown, Drake and Rihanna remained at five with their collaboration Too Good.

I always get muddled and think Umbrella was 9 weeks - that was Gnarls Barkley, Umbrella was 10.

Of course the difference is that I'm not convinced the "man in the street" could recognise, whistle or even sing "One Dance". Even after 2.5 months at #1 Mad

In more amusing news, I notice "Cheap Thrills" keeps climbing in the USA Laughing

Evil or Very Mad   I honestly can't remember what it sounds like after it ends. I can appreciate a good rap song, but this is terrible. I've seen your latest chart and can say it brings a whole new meaning to the term 'UK invasion'.  Evil or Very Mad

U.S. Record Industry Sees Album Sales Sink to Historic Lows (Again) -- But People Are Listening More Than Ever ----

It's the worst year (so far) for music sales since the 1991 debut of SoundScan (now Nielsen Music). Album sales, including track-equivalent albums (TEA, whereby 10 track sales equal one album unit) are down 16.9 percent in the first half of this year. But sales figures no longer tell the whole story of the record business.

First, let's bottom-line those disappearing sales. Album units overall fell 13.6 percent, with 100.3 million total sales. The compact disc continued to crumble, losing 11.6 percent and moving 50 million. Digital album sales fell to 43.8 million, from 53.7 million in the first half of last year. Vinyl sales continued to move up and to the right, growing 11.4 percent, to 6.2 million. New album releases have been most affected by the continued contraction, falling 20.2 percent overall, to 44.1 million units. Catalog albums fell "just" 7.7 percent, to 56.2 million.

Track sales also dropped, to 404.3 million units from 531.6 million units. Current track sales are leading the descent; songs released in the last 18 months saw sales fall nearly 40 percent. Catalog, again, saw a much smaller dip, down 6.4 percent to 236.6 million units.

Listeners streamed 208.9 billion songs (which translates to 139.2 million album units) between January and now (July 6), an increase of 58.7 percent. Of that 208.9 billion, 113.6 billion were audio-only, versus 95.3 billion video streams (defined as a music video view on YouTube, Vevo, Tidal and Apple Music -- of which the latter two contribute a very small piece). It's the first time audio has surpassed lower-paying video streams.

What's that all mean?

Billboard estimates total U.S. revenue at $1.98 billion so far this year, versus $1.82 billion last year, an corresponding 8.9 percent increase. However, the rate that Billboard uses to estimate the revenue generated by streaming ($0.0063 per song), which is clearly a central part of the revenue estimate, has been disputed as too high by some indie labels.

Drake is clearly the year's winner so far. The rapper's newest album, Views, was consumed 2.61 million times -- 1.3 million album sales; 317,000 track-equivalent albums and 979,000 stream-equivalent albums (SEA, whereby 1,500 streams equal one album unit). Drake's is one of just three million-selling albums so far this year, topped by Adele's 25 at 1.4 million in album sales and Beyonce's Lemonade at 1.2 million.

Drake is also the year's best-selling digital album, at 1.4 million units moved. David Bowie’s final record, Blackstar, sold nearly 57,000 LPs, making it the year's best-selling vinyl album. Flo Rida’s "My House," with 1.95 million track sales, is the best-selling song of the year and just one of 16 total songs to sell over a million so far (27 had hit that mark by this time last year -- six of those had tipped 2 million). The year's top 200 tracks have scanned 83.8 million units in total.

The most common place for people to purchase albums and songs was, unsurprisingly, at digital retailers, which captured 43.7 percent of the album market (and which, obviously, saw overall sales decline by 18.4 percent, to 43.8 million album units). Surprisingly, "non-traditional" CD retailers, like Amazon and supermarkets, saw an 8.3 percent growth in sales.

Executives that Billboard spoke to at the end of 2015 pointed, in no shock, to streaming as the main culprit in the sales cull, particularly song sales. An streaming is booming.

For the year, total album consumption -- which includes TEA, SEA and overall album units -- totaled 279.9 million units in the first half of 2016, up 8.9 percent, clearly driven by streaming.

Drake's 'One Dance' Becomes Longest-Running U.K. No. 1 Single in 22 Years

Drake's "One Dance" (Cash Money/Republic/Universal), featuring Wizkid & Kyla, has started a 12th week atop the U.K. singles chart to become the longest-running No. 1 song there for 22 years. On the album chart, Adele's performance at Glastonbury last weekend fueled her return to the summit with 25 (XL Recordings).

The last single to spend as many as 12 weeks at No. 1 in the market was Wet Wet Wet's 1994 mega-hit "Love Is All Around," which went on to a 15-week reign. Drake now has two songs in the U.K. top three: with "This Girl" (3 Beat) by Kungs Vs. Cookin' On 3 Burners holding at No. 2, the Canadian rapper's "Too Good," featuring Rihanna, moved 5-3 on the new Official Chart Company survey.

Adele at Glastonbury: 'This Is the Best Moment of My Life'

Rihanna's other current chart guest appearance, on "This Is What You Came For" (Columbia/Sony) by Calvin Harris, held at No. 4 as Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling" (RCA/Sony) fell 3-5. Adele's "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" climbed nine places to No. 6 to become her eighth top ten single in her home country.
25 enjoyed a 231 percent week-on-week unit surge to climb 14-1 and log its 13th aggregate week at the top, and first since late March. Adele's entire studio catalog got a sales injection from her Glastonbury headliner, with 21 moving 67-10 and 19 climbing 175-12.

The festival's closing night headliners Coldplay improved 5-2 with A Head Full Of Dreams (Parlophone/Warner Music) on a 28 percent weekly sales increase; ELO, who played the celebrated Sunday afternoon slot, moved 7-3 with the All Over The World compilation (Epic/Sony Music).

Rick Astley's former No. 1 album 50 (BMG) fell 3-4, while Beyonce's Lemonade (Columbia/Sony Music) climbed 10-5. As one XL artist replaced another at the top, Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool fell 1-9. The highest new entry of the week was Earth (Reprise/Warner Music) by Neil Young & Promise Of Real. Throwback – Summer Jamz (Ministry Of Sound/Sony Music CG) moved into a third week atop the compilations chart.

Drake Nears Bryan Adams' U.K. Singles Chart Record As 'One Dance' Is No. 1 for 14th Week

Drake's "One Dance" (Cash Money/ Republic/Universal), featuring Wizkid & Kyla, has recorded a 14th week atop the U.K. singles chart. Scottish rock trio Biffy Clyro, meanwhile, land their second No. 1 album in the territory with their seventh studio release, Ellipsis (14th Floor/Warner Music).

Memorable Music Moments From the ESPYs

The Drake single is closing in on a chart record, as it's now only two weeks from matching the longest-ever consecutive run at No. 1 on the U.K. countdown, Bryan Adams' 16 weeks for "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" in 1991. Drake's closest challenger this week, according to the Official Charts Company's new data, was Chainsmokers' "Don't Let Me Down" (Disruptor), featuring Daya, which rose 7-2.
"Perfect Strangers" (Positiva/Universal) by Jonas Blue featuring J.P. Cooper was another fast riser, moving 16-3, while 2015 Britain's Got Talent contestant Calum Scott's "Dancing On My Own" (Instrumental) climbed again, 10-4. "This Girl" (3 Beat) by Kungs Vs. Cookin' On 3 Burners fell 2-5.

Miami rapper Kent Jones moved 12-10 with "Don't Mind" (Black Butter/Epic/Sony). British pop favorite Olly Murs had the week's highest new entry with "You Don't Know Love" (Epic/Sony), at No. 23.

Album chart toppers Biffy Clyro first made the U.K. album chart with the modest No. 78 peak of Blackened Sky in 2002. Their first album to make the top 40 was 2007's Puzzle, at No. 2, and their previous chart-topper was Opposites in 2013. Ellipsis totaled 37,000 combined chart sales to take them to the summit again.
Adele held at No. 2 with 25 (XL Recordings), while Drake's Views moved back 6-3. Coldplay dipped 3-4 with A Head Full Of Dreams (Parlophone/Warner Music) and ELO held at No. 5 with their compilation All Over The World. Rick Astley's former No. 1, 50 (BMG), moved back 8-6, as last week's No. 1, Blink 182's California, also on Friday, fell to No. 9. Australian collective Avalanches' long-awaited Wildflower (XL Recordings), the follow-up to 2001's "Since I Left You," debuted at No. 10. Now That's What I Call Summer Hits (Sony Music CG/Virgin EMI/Universal) goes into a second week at the top of the compilation chart.

Drake had a good 2016:

It's official: Drake out-sold everyone in 2016
The Canadian star achieved millions of sales and billions of streams with his fourth album, Views, which topped the charts around the world.
He managed to beat Adele and Coldplay, who also achieved big sales last year.
The news comes from music industry bigwigs the IFPI, who've given Drake their Global Recording Artist of the Year Award.

Here we go again...

For the 3rd time in 4 weeks, one artist accounts for multiple new entries from their new album. It's recidivist Drake who, unlike Ed and Stormzy, has had next to no publicity/warning about this this week, which makes the result all the more egregious.

I almost said something snarky referencing Drake last week to say now he'll try and break Ed's record by releasing a ton of c"rap" at once. I wish I had now lol. I'm not gonna lie ... I hate Drake. I liked his first single years back, but I have no desire to hear anything he dishes out. Here, they're praising Nicki Minaj this week for beating Aretha Franklin out on Top 40 hits. Insulting! Aretha was the Singles charts, not the Streaming charts full of features. She also has much more class than that and wouldn't even try that. I'll call it now .... in a week or two,  Rihanna will beat out Nicki Minaj. I used to chart music so I'd know what to buy. Now I chart it as to know what to avoid lol.

In fairness, Drake is merely the expression of a seriously faulty system. I was less upset about Ed because I like the guy and he's usually got something interesting and different to pass on. When a guy is judged to be charting with Interludes from his record, then that's just how stupid things have got.

The thing is, the industry works from this chart as the #1 relevant indication of success, and it's nonsense now.

Drake Breaks Hot 100 Records: Most Hits Among Solo Artists & Most Simultaneously Charted Songs
Drake charts 24 songs on the latest Hot 100, breaking his own record for the most simultaneous hits on the chart. Plus, he ups his career total to 154 chart entries, passing Lil Wayne for the most among solo acts.

As Drake's new album More Life blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (dated April Cool, the hip-hop superstar smashes records on the Billboard Hot 100.

Most notably, with all 22 tracks from the set, as well as two others, on the Hot 100 at once, Drake passes Lil Wayne for the most charted titles among soloists (154) in the Hot 100's 58-year history, while breaking his own mark for the most simultaneously charted Hot 100 titles in a week (24).

Drake also rewrites his own record for the most Hot 100 debuts in a week, sending 21 songs, all from More Life, onto the list for the first time.

First, Drake takes over as the soloist with the most Hot 100 appearances dating to the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception. With 21 debuts, he ups his count to 154 visits, blowing past Lil Wayne (135), who had held the mark among solo artists since October 2012, when he passed Elvis Presley, 109 to 108; notably, Presley's career predated the Hot 100's origin by more than two years. Among all acts, only the cast of Fox's Glee (a rotating troupe with certain members present throughout the TV show's six-season run in 2009-15) boasts more: 207.

Here is an updated count of the acts with the most Hot 100 entries all-time:

207, Glee Cast
154, Drake
135, Lil Wayne
108, Elvis Presley
91, James Brown
87, Jay Z
82, Chris Brown
81, Kanye West
77, Nicki Minaj
75, Ray Charles

Drake's coronation as the soloist with the most charted Hot 100 titles occurs a week after Nicki Minaj passed Aretha Franklin (76 to 73, as of last week) for the highest total among female soloists; Franklin had held that honor for nearly 40 years. (This week, Minaj adds her 77th Hot 100 entry, as Jason Derulo's "Swalla," featuring Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign, debuts at No. 98.)

Of his 154 Hot 100 titles, Drake has charted 103 as a lead artist (or 67 percent of his total). Only the Glee Cast (207) and Presley (108) have notched more entries as leads, showing lead billing on all of their charted titles.

As for the single-week record for the most charted Hot 100 entries, Drake's 24 on the new April 8-dated list passes his own mark of 20, which he logged on the Hot 100 dated May 21, 2016, the week that his prior album Views debuted atop the Billboard 200.

Additionally, Drake's 21 Hot 100 debuts on the April 8 chart are the most in a single week, topping the 16 songs, all from Views, that bowed on May 21, 2016.

And, one more historic total: With all 22 tracks from More Life on the new Hot 100, Drake breaks the record for the most simultaneously charted Hot 100 titles from a single album, lifting past the 18 each for Views (May 21, 2016) and The Weeknd's Starboy (Dec. 17, 2016); like Views, the latter set tied the record the week that it arrived atop the Billboard 200.

Here is a look at the record 24 songs that Drake places on the April 8-dated Hot 100:

No. 8, "Passionfruit" (debut)
No. 9, "Portland," feat. Quavo and Travis Scott (debut)
No. 15, "Fake Love" (up from No. 31 in its 22nd week after reaching No. 8 in February)
No. 18, "Free Smoke" (debut)
No. 29, "Gyalchester" (debut)
No. 35, "Teenage Fever" (debut)
No. 36, "Sacrifices," feat. 2 Chainz and Young Thug (debut)
No. 38, "Blem" (debut)
No. 40, "No Long Talk," feat. Giggs (debut)
No. 45, "Get It Together," feat. Jorja Smith and Black Coffee (debut)
No. 48, "KMT," feat. Giggs (debut)
No. 49, "Jorja Interlude" (debut)
No. 50, "4422," feat. Sampha (debut)
No. 51, "Madiba Ridim" (debut)
No. 54, "Glow," feat. Kanye West (debut)
No. 58, "Both," Gucci Mane feat. Drake (down from No. 51 in its 14th week after reaching No. 41 in January)
No. 60, "Do Not Disturb" (debut)
No. 61, "Nothings Into Something" (debut)
No. 62, "Ice Melts," feat. Young Thug (debut)
No. 64, "Lose You" (debut)
No. 70, "Since Way Back," feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR (debut)
No. 76, "Skepta Interlude" (debut)
No. 82, "Can't Have Everything" (debut)
No. 84, "No Frauds," Nicki Minaj, Drake & Lil Wayne (down from No. 14 in its second week)

With "Passionfruit" and "Portland" debuting at Nos. 8 and 9 on the Hot 100, respectively, Drake is just the second artist to notch simultaneous top 10 debuts, following Ed Sheeran, whose "Shape of You" (the No. 1 song on the chart for a ninth week on the April 8 survey) and "Castle on the Hill" entered at Nos. 1 and 6, respectively, on Jan. 28. Drake's two new Hot 100 top 10s up his count to 20 for his career as he becomes the 17th act to hit that milestone. (Madonna leads all acts with 38 top 10s.)

Streaming is the main driver for each of More Life's Hot 100-charted songs this week. As previously reported, the set drew a record 384.8 million streams for its songs in its first week (ending March 23), according to Nielsen Music, besting the 245.1 million song streams that Views' songs garnered in their first frame.

On the Billboard 200, More Life vaults in at No. 1 with 505,000 equivalent album units in its opening week.

The Hot 100, Billboard 200 and all Billboard charts will update tomorrow (March 28) on Billboard.com.

As well as decimating/dominating the singles chart, he's got plans for the small screen, too:

Drake joins the cast of Top Boy
Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, is believed to have bought the rights to Top Boy after Channel 4 dropped the series in 2013 following a two-season run. According to the show's lead star Ashley Walters, Drake met with producers at the end of March and is in talks to star in his own role.

Drake Becomes First Lead Solo Male With Two 10-Week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s, as 'God's Plan' Stays at the Summit   Sleep    Sleep    Sleep
As if it matters .... Just did a quick rundown of this week's Top 10 and they all sound like the same dreary song, literally. Nothing upbeat aside from 'Havana' which feels decades old by now. The only word I can use to describe today's sound is bipolar. A club DJ would have absolutely no problem mixing these tunes. Same beat, different rap. Wow, I really hate to complain like this, but would one good club song be too much to ask for? (Chainsuckers don't count lol). Haven't had a decent #1 since 'Cheap Thrills', though that's strictly a matter of opinion. It's not just the baaaad music either. It's the fact that the lyrics say nothing positive anywhere. Love songs are a thing of the past. It's all about murder, suicide or smoking crack. Even Shawn Mendes' new song is highly depressing to the point of disturbing. Oh, where are Pet Shop Boys when you need them?

His latest album Scorpion entered the UK at #1, with the obligatory 3 tracks in the top 5 singles, including some kind of collaboration with Michael Jackson  Shocked

He also made a surprise turn at the Wireless Festival yesterday, in some way compensating for the no-show by headliner DJ "can't be bothered" Khaled.

He's got another #1 single, supposedly off the back of some kind of video challenge that has made no mainstream impact whatsoever.

I wouldn't go that far, even if I do puzzle at the whole One Dance fiasco from last year, not to mention the current In My Feelings hype. It seems the charts and their collation are more at fault. Would we care if it was someone or some song we liked? That's the thing.

Drake's breaking records again, winning another 12 Billboard Awards at this week's ceremony, to add to his previous wins, and set a new record tally of 27 wins:

Cardi B won 12 awards too, so clearly there were a LOT of awards dished out, thus raising the inevitability of winning.
