Brit indie rockers The Maccabees are to split up after 14 years together:

The group say they are going their separate ways at their "creative peak".

"The decision has obviously been an incredibly difficult one, given that The Maccabees has been such a huge part of our lives until now," the band said in a statement.

Their last album, Marks to Prove It, was their first number one in the UK and they recently headlined Latitude festival.

Hugely successful Japanese boyband SMAP are going to split up after 25 years.
The Japanese boy band, which sold 35m records up to last year, will disband on 31 December, its management agency said on Sunday.

Rumours of a split had been rife since the turn of the year, but had all previously been denied.

Its five members, who are aged between 39 and 43, are now expected to pursue solo careers.

The band, formed in 1988, has built up a huge fanbase in Japan and throughout Asia with members appearing frequently in films, soap operas, and commercials.

Members of SMAP, which stands for "Sports Music Assemble People", have also appeared on cookery shows and Japanese coverage of the Rio Olympics.

One of Canada's most enduring bands, The Tragically Hip, played their last gig after 30 or so years, because lead singer Gord Downie has a terminal brain cancer. Current PM Justin Trudeau was among those attending to pay tribute to a much-loved band coming to an untimely finish Surprised

Bros brothers reunite for 30th anniversary concert
Twin brothers Matt and Luke Goss will play London's O2 Arena next August. But original bassist Craig Logan will not take part in the reunion.
"I've always wanted it to happen in my heart," Luke said. "But I wanted it to be the right time."
Should be interesting Cool

^^^The Bros reunion gig sold out so quickly, that they're turning it into a tour as well:

Bros reunion expands to full UK tour
They said they would play London's O2 arena on 19 August 2017 - the anniversary of their last ever gig, at Wembley Stadium in 1989.
The show sold out "in seven seconds" on Friday morning, said promoters.
As a result, six further dates have been added, in Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Newcastle and Glasgow, along with a second night at the O2.

Still following on from the Bros story, original bassist Craig Logan has been talking about why he won't be part of the reunion. Basically, he doesn't want to, and doesn't expect that the audience wants him to, either. Nice to know some folk in the industry have level heads. Of course, as a look at his post-Bros CV shows
He was head of RCA Records from 2006 to 2010 and now runs his own company, the London-based Logan Media Entertainment, which looks after artists including Anastacia, Dido and Aston Merrygold, formerly of JLS.
He's busy enough as it is.

Victoria Beckham is taking legal action to halt a proposed Spice Girls reunion tour in which only 3 of the 5 band members take part. Victoria herself is one of the 2 not to be involved, and apparently expressed no issues with them singing their own solo material, but doing Spice Girls stuff would be a bit sad.

Rare to find artistic integrity fighting commercial imperative. Even rarer to come from Posh Spice.

Cool
Things not going too swimmingly with this, as they've now cancelled several of these dates:
Due to logistical circumstances beyond their control, it is with sincere regret that Bros have been forced to cancel four dates on their forthcoming UK tour. Matt and Luke Goss apologise to their fans for any disappointment.
"Concerts set for Nottingham August 23, Birmingham August 25, Newcastle August 26, and Glasgow August 27, will now not take place.
Or maybe prices were too high, and demand too low? Suspect

Black Sabbath Officially Call It Quits After 49 Years (Click headline for full article)

Black Sabbath played what they said was their final-ever gig together last month in their hometown of Birmingham. Fans weren't necessarily worried, though, as bands do this all the time: they announce a farewell tour, release a very last album, and swear that this time it's for real.

But on Tuesday (March 7), Ozzy Osbourne and the gang appeared to make it official, posting their obituary on Facebook with the hashtag, #TheEnd.

Reaction to the news varied widely, with one fan quipping "the Rolling Stones have their final tour every 3 years," while another wrote "Black Sabbath will live on through their recordings for people to discover and enjoy the band for a long time to come."

After nearly a half century together, the group -- which, on its final tour, included singer Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and Tommy Clufetos replacing original drummer Bill Ward -- embarked on their The End Tour in January 2016, putting an end to a 49-year, 19 studio album career that began in Birmingham in 1968.

Sabbath is considered one of the most influential heavy metal acts of all time, putting its stamp on the sound of everyone from Guns N' Roses to Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Foo Fighters, Metallica and the Smashing Pumpkins thanks to such thundering psychedelic hard rock tunes as "Black Sabbath," "Behind the Wall of Sleep," "War Pigs," "Paranoid," "Iron Man" and "Sweet Leaf."

Last June, Osbourne told Billboard he was "having a blast" with the final go-round, though he was in a bit of denial at that point. "Right now I'm OK with it. I'm sure as it starts counting down to five shows left or something, it's gonna be kind of emotional, I think," he said. "I mean, we started off as four guys from Aston who had a dream and it became true beyond our wildest dreams. And then we were manipulated, we were ripped off, we were conned, all of the above. We lost each other within each other, if you like. But it's great to have got this back just to end on a high note, y'know?"

Bananarama's original line-up have reunited again, for their first ever tour this autumn/winter:

Sarah, Karen and Siobhan
Siobhan Fahey, who left the band in 1988 to pursue a new career as Shakespear's Sister, is to rejoin her bandmates Sara Dallin and Karen Woodward to perform their first ever live shows as this lineup.
The 15-date tour kicks off in Glasgow on November 12 and will travel the UK to finish in Southend on December 2.
80s-tastic.
