People they come together, people they fall apart

Post  misery guts on Fri Apr 26, 2013 7:07 am

I've long thought it might be an idea to note bands who split, or indeed reform.

This week, JLS joined the ranks of those calling it a day. Despite a pretty successful run in the past 4-5 years since they finished 2nd on the UK version of The X Factor, they're using the end of their 5 album deal as a cue to go their separate ways. Such bands tend not to sustain a serious longevity without a good reason, and the various members had dallied with solo work already anyway.

A forthcoming drama about the music biz has prompted the following:

Chaz Chance And The Prophets.

"A group of veteran rock stars from Roxy Music, The Smiths, Suede and Supergrass have teamed up to form a new supergroup for a TV drama series."

Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera, The Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, Suede bassist Mat Osman and Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes have come together to make up Chaz Chance And The Prophets.

The fictional rock band was put together to feature in a new UK TV series called The Records, which tells the story of the ups and downs of a music industry talent agent.

Though she left full-time in 1998, Christine McVie will rejoin Fleetwood Mac for a couple of dates on their forthcoming tour.

Welsh rockers Lostprophets have called it a day. They formed way back in 1997, and had some success in the first half of last decade. Their current fate is that their frontman is facing serious allegations of child abuse pale

After cancelling a recent tour, it seems that Jonas Brothers are splitting up after an 8 year journey together.

She obviously enjoyed it, because she's talked about working with them some more Cool Been a long time since their last new album, so I wouldn't expect another, but they still seem popular live.

Though several members left in recent years, it now seems that UB40 will reform (or at least some of the original members will)
Vocalists Ali Campbell and Astro and keyboardist Mickey Virtue, who together started the act in 1978, said on their website they were recording new songs.

Campbell and Virtue left the band in 2008 and Astro quit in November 2013.

British boyband The Wanted are apparently going on hiatus in the near future, after the mis-fires of their most recent album (which is a shame - despite rubbish like 'Walks Like Rihanna', they did show signs of trying to broaden their palette a bit). That they were so overtaken by One Direction probably didn't help, either.

The Civil Wars announce their split, once and for all
The Civil Wars have conclusively announced their split. Two years after stating that they were “unable to continue as a touring entity”, the country-folk two-piece shared a goodbye song and a message gesturing to their forthcoming solo work.
Didn't hear much from them anyway, but what I did seemed alright to me. Oh well.

Jason Orange has decided he doesn't want to commit to a new album/tour with Take That! - the other three are going to carry on, though. Not entirely surprising, or all that crucial.

I still find it so baffling to see that Take That's ONLY Top 40 hit in the states was Back For Good. Certainly not their best song, though will take what we can get. Going back and looking through the UK charts has introduced me to soooo much good music. Take That were always charting with something awesome! It's highly unlikely in the US to meet anyone under 30 that would even know Take That .... (bows head in shame to our music industry).

Quite funny to think neither Gary Barlow nor Robbie Williams have any impact State-side, though.

=========

AC/DC founder member guitarist Malcolm Young has had to leave the band and enter care because of dementia:

Newly retired AC/DC guitarist and founder Malcolm Young has called time on his illustrious career due to an ongoing battle with dementia

Only 61, but a 40-year career in a global rock force would take its toll on anyone.
The band confirmed they will embark on a world tour to celebrate their 40th anniversary as a band and promote Rock Or Bust, their 15th studio album, at an undisclosed date.

With Young, the band's songwriter of 40 years, departure, brother Angus Young will be taking on wordsmith duties writing future songs.

Due to be released on November 28, Rock Or Bust is and comes six years after the band's hugely successful album Black Ice.

Only one earth-shattering story here:

Zayn Malik quits One Direction; others carry on as normal
Simon Cowell, who discovered the boyband on talent show The X Factor, said: "I would like to say thank you to Zayn for everything he has done for One Direction.

"Since I first met Zayn in 2010, I have grown very, very fond - and immensely proud - of him. I have seen him grow in confidence and I am truly sorry to see him leave.

"As for One Direction, fans can rest assured that Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis are hugely excited about the future of the band."
I must say my life will go on as normal Razz

One Direction were one of the few good boy bands of the modern era. All the same, was reading a news article yesterday showing how a teen girl-fan slit her wrists over this catastrophic news. (Sarcasm, yes). Sad situation, though as you said, life will go on. Just a true shame that anyone would try to take their life over such a petty thing. In a decade, will anyone even remember One Direction? There will be many more boy bands / eye candy included ... perhaps not talent lol. Haven't kept up with this much, though can they simply not replace ZM with a fresh new face? Glad it easn't 'The Wanted'.

I thought Harry Styles was the one being set up to leave triumphantly and go solo. Malik had been badgered by the media for weeks about drugs and girls. It's not as though One Direction speak to people because of musical integrity and skill - boy-bands seldom do.

One thing that sustained Take That! was that Gary Barlow was pretty talented, and Mark Owen could put his shoulder to the wheel from time to time as well.

Follow-up (!) One Direction news, as they've announced plans to take a 12-month sabbatical from each other so they can do solo stuff.

But it doesn't start until next March Mad because they've got a new album out in the next 6 months to promote and make money from.

The days when you released an album as an artistic statement of the songs you'd written, rather than an item on a balance sheet, are clearly long gone.

Legendary Canadian rockers Rush may or may not be heading for the final encore:

Rush star Geddy Lee 'optimistic' over band's future
The Canadian rock band completed a 40th anniversary North American tour this summer amid rumours it might be their last.

Earlier this week it was reported drummer Neil Peart considered himself "retired".

But in an interview with the BBC, Lee said he was "optimistic" that Rush would play live again.
Given the number of acts from the 1960s currently celebrating the half-century bandwagon, it seems somehow a bit naff to throw in the towel at a mere 40 years.

Paramore founder member Jeremy Davis quits band
Paramore bassist Jeremy Davis has left the band.

Davis has been a member of the band since 2005 and has played on all four of Paramore's studio albums. The band announced the news via a Facebook statement, confirming that they will continue as a two-piece with lead singer Hayley Williams and guitarist Taylor York.

It Actually Happened
Guns N' Roses stars Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan have performed together onstage for the first time since 1993.

The US rock band - one of the biggest groups of the late 1980s and early 1990s - played an intimate concert at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on Friday night which was reportedly formalised just a day earlier.

Hundreds of die-hard fans had queued up for only 250 tickets that were on sale.

Mobile phones and cameras were banned from the concert but some fans still managed to put photos of the reunited group on social media.

Hot on the heels of the above, the Spice Girls are supposedly planning to reform again. However, only 3 of them are involved; Ginger, Scary and Baby. Posh and Sporty are presumably otherwise too busy. The 20th anniversary of their 1st album & single are the peg on which they're hanging the excuse for this money-grubbing exercise.
